I'm after replacing my back light unit with an LED one.

The reason is I'm on my second unit and this has now rotted away as per the first one. Now all the LED units I've seen seem to plug into the bulb holder which defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do as it's this bit that rots away.

Does anybody know of one that has leads that plug into the existing wiring :nenau

It's not the end of the world if there is no such thing as I can always modify one but would prefer to have one that does what I want from the off.

The used LED lights listed here mentions "Optional factory fitted LED tail light. Requires adaptor lead if being fitted in place of conventional rear light."

so I reckon if you give them a call they ought to be able to help out.

Cheers, Rob.

Ah, good idea AND cheaper than the units out there :thumb2

I replaced my 07 , rusted away rear light, with a genuine BMW LED. This involved removing the GSA rear frame and rear top section and fitting a new wiring section and new rear LED light. To give you an example of cost, I had a 12,000 ml service at the same time at a main dealer and the total cost was £333

Just use a good squirt of ACF50 when its apart or when putting it back together. It doesn't wash off like WD40. My '07 bike has Nippy Normans LEDs at the rear, 42k done, no rust on the connectors etc. Simples!

Ta for the further posts, the problem is the metal tangs that connect to the base of the bulb eventually rot (shit design that was rectified from '07 on). Mine's had liberal coating of ACF50 but eventually rotted all the same so any LED light that plugs into the bulb holder is not gonna work.............any way, just need a spare £40 and then I'll get a 2nd hand '07 unit that plugs into the loom (from Motorworks)

Assuming from what you say your bike is pre-'07, therefore according to Motorworks it will need the older "optional extra" rear light unit and an adapter loom rather than the post-'97 LED unit.
