I see you can now spec a lithium battery on the 1250gs. Is the battery box the same as a 1200?

If you go into bike configurator on the website it’s in there under HP battery

When you consider people are spending a lot more than £300 on aftermarket exhausts supposedly to save weight it’s not that expensive at all. Motorworks have lithium battery’s a lot cheaper than that. JJH

It’s a bigger weight saving than the akro can is and if you get one from motorworks like you say it’s a lot cheaper. I would have one purely because it’s smaller and I could stash chocolate underneath it.

Do you not need a specific charger too thus adding to the cost?

Why do people think they need to charge a perfectly good battery? One of the advantages of lithium is that it holds its charge without the same level of self discharge as lead acid. Yes if you need leave one on charge for a extended period of time there is a specific charger. As I understand it you can use a conventional charger for a short time. JJH

The question still is then how does your alternator know it’s got a lithium battery and not a conventional battery?

It’s not the altenoter. Some smart battery chargers have a mode that damages lithium. I think they go into a mode that gives a burst higher voltage? JJH

That makes sense, I was looking at it from a different point of view.
