If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to four (4) map Data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map Data from NAVTEQ, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same map Data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased, or updates to map Data that you purchased separately (if applicable). If your Garmin product does not include, or you do not purchase separately, the map Data you want to update using your nüMaps Lifetime subscription, then you must purchase the map Data separately before you can load the updated map Data onto your Garmin product. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the same map Data originally included with your Garmin product (or purchased separately, as the case may be), in which case you will need to select reduced map Data coverage for your updates. Does anyone know if the downloadable lifetime updates can be backed up as a DVD for when the computer crashes and they need installed on a second PC?

Just download them again onto the new PC, surely?

I have the lifetime maps loaded onto two PC's without a problem.

The updates have a 'lifetime' after which the downloads are 'locked' on the Garmin website. But, if you call Garmin up, they will 'unlock' them again for you.

It's the onetime maps that have a 30 day download limit.
Presume those ones could be saved to DVD?

No idea but as it's so easy to ask Garmin to turn them on again, why bother?

Probably because Garmin work 8.30-5.30 Monday-Friday, exactly when it's not convenient for me to call them!

In London, a couple of hours to download and another couple to transfer to the device.

I successfully updated my Zumo 550 today. I had to download a 4.29GB file.
My question is: everytime there is an update will there be a large download?
I bought the numap lifetime thing.

The next download will be even bigger as there will be more data - unless they begin to compress it.

That's the only bummer - I've got a 2GB download limit per month with my broadband package so I get a snot-o-gram every time there's an update. Thankfully there's only an update every 6 months or so.

there is a version of 2010.30 which can be put onto a SD card which is 1.8gb, i downloaded it a few weeks ago and it works pefectly.

something like that might be a solution for you??

Check your t&c's - a lot of providers say 2gb a month, but don't include anything downloaded between 12pm & 6am...........
