Just wondering...

Anyone tell me of some "light" gravel trails until I find my feet off-road ?

Live in Dublin but will travel a bit to do a small bit of green-laning as such.

Wicklow would be preferable....( Im lazy, i know ).

from my experience you may aswell ask someone to offer their youngest daughter for you to marry than give up their trails :aidan

few members here do runs so will prob be onto you soon about next run out and you can join in

i have osme very easy bog roads near portlaoise but short roads so only get about 1hour or riding out of it

Tks John.

I will keep an eye here for runs. May take you up on the Portlaoise trails too.

go onto google maps ca see all roads, then drop down onto street view and can check if routes you want try are gated or not

You're not wrong John ;)

Biggest problem is that, unlike the UK we don't have byways & the like. Most tracks are either private lanes or Coillte's forestry tracks, none of which are legal.

There's a good few trails around Three Rock apparently. Some of the enduro boys practice up there but I don't think it's strictly kosher. I've never been up there but someone may be along to tell you about it. Failing that, head up on the bike some weekend & see if there's vans or bike trailers around & talk to the guys. I think there's a way in somewhere near the Blue Light but I'm not sure.

Alternatively, there's bits of gravel heading off the Kilkee to Sally Gap road but they're all short bits. Still & all, they'd be a good test if its your first time.

Once you go that far continue to Glenmalure. At the top of the valley the road stops at the river but there's a shallow ford & then you're onto gravel. Depending on the forestry works some bits should be open.

A couple of things though :
Three Rock & Glenmalure are popular with walkers & dog owners so (a) I'd avoid them at weekends but definitely on a Sunday & (b) if you meet walkers slow down and respect them & their dogs.

And finally, don't go off road on your own. Sh1t happens :rob

What bike Banzai ?

Basically, what Jockser said!!!

If you head up Ticknock and go through the forest towards the aerials on the 3 rock mountain, half way up, there is a branch road off to the right. (red hay barn about 300 yards down so you'll know on the right track) This will bring you across to Kilmashogue by the back of Stackstown Golf Club.

At the top at the 3 rocks - if you head right, it will bring you across to the 'Fairy castle' and straight on will bring you towards Glencullen.

Handy trails to get you started but watch out for the 'tree huggers' !!!!!
