Hi everyone,
Well it's getting awfy dark riding home after work, and I keep reading threads elsewhere on the site from people who have had their headlights modified to run as HID's by Les Wassall in Cheshire or extra lighting fitted by BTBR in Worcestershire or somewhere.
Being fairly mechanically inept I wondered if anyone in Scotland is game for offering such a service? I am sure there would be other takers. Or are others all confident installing electrical accessories without affecting the slighly scary Canbus system, with me the only dafty in this part of the world?
Has anyone cracked this issue already?

Agreed, every once in a while I get the map out to check if Cheshire has got any closer
I don't mind mechanical bits but prefer to leave electrics alone
A wee business for someone I'm sure

I went for the DIY option. Its more strightforward than you think provided you can use a soldering iron and are fairly methodical. I could give you the low down if you were interested?

Get one of Les Wassels kits- I've fitted one and it was very easy- took about an hour as I stripped off all the plastics ( I'm a handless git and would have scratched something)
Even came with a neat bracket for the ballasts.

It's plug and play with no soldering or fannying about and the difference is amazing.

Buy the bits / kit and trundle along to Motorrad Central for them to fit. The Edinburgh mechanics don't seem too pushed at the moment & would welcome thee work!

It`s dead easy to fit them yourself. There`s loads of "how to`s" on this site & any amount of folk that can give advice. I fitted my lights & the only breaking in to the Bikes wiring was the scotchblock into the high & low beams to power up the relays :thumb2
Do a search, take your time and give it a go :thumb It took me a week to fit mine but that was an hour or so a night and taking it slow & careful

I think you use the same method as in the rest of the country.
Just set fire to the fur trim on their parkas, and stand well clear.

Hello Technopole

I bought my HID's when they were £200 from HID's4U for a two lamp setup but here was no soldering or anything like that required. Still without doubt worth the money.

The original wires to the lamps become the feed to the ballasts and new wires plug into the ballast to feed the HID lamps.

If you are stuck I stay in the south of Glasgow and work in Paisley, I'll happily give you a hand.

One thing, my bike is an 1150 so no Canbus. I would need someone to confirm that it is "plug and play" on a 1200 or details of any additional mods required.

PM me if you want a hand.

Thanks to everyone for your advice, and particularly to those kind souls who have offered further support. It sounds like I should probably take the plunge and order one of Les' DIY kits, and take it steady, but cry out for help if needed. (Packer thanks, I'll let you know).
It may be after Christmas before I can find the cash anyway, I will see how December progresses.
:beerjug:Cheers!

Finished mine on Friday.
Now have 50w HID for the standard dip and main courtsey of Walt.
35w HID DE's
and 35w HID FF50's

It's now awesome.

Converted the DE's and FF50's myself.

I've just seen this post.

Pure quality from the Thomson Lawd Fae Kirkcaldy :clap :clap
