Hi all, Just purchased a 1100 gs with 20000 miles on the clock. was happy with the bike until I found that what was said to have been done was not .Full service ? when I descovered that there was no brake fluid in the rear master resevoir and the tail light was not working. Which brings me on to asking the question, when removing the lense found that the bulb was okay. Run a meter on the connections and had 12 volts but upon putting everthing back with a new bulb, it stopped working again. So off with the reflector again and then found no voltage. So I played with the fuses and found that it was working again. All of the connections seem to be clean and I was wondering if this is a common problem or not?

Not a common problem I have encountered after 4 years with an 1100GS and one or two evenings spent reading posts on this forum.

You can download a wiring diagram from me here (and full workshop manual) The wiring diagram is for the 1150 but there is bugger all difference as far as I can see to the 1100.

re- rear lights

Thanks for that, I've downloaded the wiring diagram. I think that the fuse was giving me problems as the lights were working when turned onto park. I've yet to check the handle bar switch but all seems to be fine.

If your wirings fine check the bayonet mounts for the bulb. Mine melted causing movement of the bulb in its holder resulting in the bulb not contacting the tabs properly. You won't be able to buy a new holder, the taillight is sold as a complete unit.

Thaks for the help. I have now cleared up the problem. The fuse was not contacting in the holder, so I closed up the spade and all looks ok. I had to whack the headlight to get that working and found the bulb milky, so replaced it.
I am glad that all it was as it can dampen down the joys of a new ownership. Cheers!
