Little Red cross in a Box?

Always baffled me when sometimes the piccies i download or copy from sites are OK and others come up with an empty box with a little red cross in the top corner.
Even right clicking and pointing on open picture does nothing.

Why in certain Pictures is that the case and is there anything i can do to open them. Very irritating at times

Sometimes the pics are too big

Sometimes people put a link that's not a pic, ie www.ukgser.com would look like this

Sometimes you're firewall & antivirus stops it -someone will explain this better, cos I'm numpty.

The little red cross in the box is a "this pointer points at a picture that doesn't exist" or "the picture file you downloaded is broke".

If this is downloads causing the problem it may be a pointer from a dynamic web page. Try opening the page, right click and "save image as" and then wait for it to be fully downloaded (some are sloooow).


Of course, you may have downloaded a picture of a small red cross in a box...

Right clicking on the red cross and selecting "show picture" sometimes brings up the image.
