I had some seals replaced on my shaft drive today. The work was done by Rydales and the price charged was less than the estimate. They even washed the French dirt off for me.

Today, as I had booked the bike in some weeks ago. after the 24k service, I had a free loan bike.

However, I was informed that if I want a loan bike in the future then I would have to pay £10 per day towards insurance.

Is this common practice at other BMW dealers?

(1200GS owners need not worry as those having warranty repairs will not have to pay, nor will those on test rides organised by a sales droid.)

Depends !

"Yes" if you are not insured by BMW insurance

"No" if you are currently insured by BMW .

However , as always - the individual dealer may , for whatever reason chose to waive any particular fee at their discretion - so perhaps the more often correct reply would be ,

"Perhaps !"

All the best ,
James

Mine's just coming up to the 24k is is likely to cost me a major wedge?
Just bend over and take it like a man. You are going to get screwed big time!

Actually, it depends. My 24K was combined with the annual service so it cost quite a lot (£350 from memory including a clean up of the brake calipers) The 36K will probably cost even more because it will include another annual service and the change of the poly belt.

Rydales charged £261 for the 24k service including changing the front brake fluid. The mechanic is very thorough. The advisories he made (oil seals on the shaft drive) have cost me a further £240 (20 in parts, rest labour). Seems a lot, but £500 in annual maintenance costs on a 4 year old bike seems okay to me.

Be aware, as per the other thread, if you want the service done before November then you'll have to go to another dealer.

Some dealers in the London area would charge not far off £500 just for the 24k service and brake fluid change!!!

Thanks for that, trying to work out the cheapest option for 24k service, Rydales and short trip or Steptoe and slightly longer trip
