Hello to everybody!
I'm Tommaso, 21, from Milan Italy.
From Feb 22 to March 5 i'm going to Marocco with my girlfriend.
From 26/2 to 3/5 we were going to hire a bike to do the following trip:

Marrakech - Taroundant (via Tizi n'Test) - Tafroute - Agadir (via Tiznit) - Essaouira - Marrakech.

Those mentioned are not necessarily stops, just way points.

I was going to hire a Kymko Agility 125 (don't ban me from the forum please!) for some reasons: I love to ride slow (and my girlfriend too!), it's very cheap rent (1800 DH for 6 days), its consumes are very low and has a good capability.

I've got two questions i'd be very very happy if you can help me with:

1) Loc2Roues and Maroc Deux Roues proposed me exactly the same price for the same scooter, which of the two offers better service (assistence etc.)?

2) Do you think Tizi n'Test will be open around Feb 26?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Best wishes!

Tom

Two-up on a 125? :eek Or did I misunderstand. ;)

My friends have rented in the past of loc2roues and I understand Maroc Dux Roues is also a good company, but you really need to ask the two companies about support.

There hasn't been much snow so far this year, but it's cold at altitude, so wrap up well.

Tafraoute should be nice, make sure you see the painted rocks.

You got it right, two up on a 125!
I hope the kymko will do it!

Thanks a lot for the answers, i'll ask the companies (and bring heavy clothes!)

I was also wondering about free camping somewhere between Agadir and Essaouira (maybe close to Sidi Kaouki), I hope we'll find a good (and safe) location!

I have one more question, do you think having a range of 130 km could be a problem (in the route i've told before)?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot Tim!

Do you think 20th protest will end up with violence?

We are supposed to leave on the 22th, since we paid just 60euros for the flight, in case of danger we will not leave..

what do you think?

Thanks!

I would very much doubt there will be any widespread violence, if any violence at all. However if you are worried about it, why not ask if they can meet you at the airport with the bike then you can head straight out and over the tizi-n-test. If there is any trouble it is likely to be restricted to the centre of town and once on the road you are very unlikely to encounter any problems:thumb2

Thanks for fast answers,

do you still think the same after yesterday' protest and the five deaths in the north?

Do you think that riding by ourselves, not in big cities would be safer?

I should be landing tomorrow...

Thanks!

I think you will be fine, especially heading south.
Where did you hear about there being 5 deaths? I can find nothing about it on UK media or on Al Jazeera.
So long as you stay away from the big cities, especially Casablanca and Rabat, you will be fine:thumb2

The deaths appear to be an unfortunate accidental side-effect of torching a bank in Al Hoceima on the Mediterranean coast. Marrakech has a fair bit of disruption with the windows of McDonalds kicked in.

The reality is that nobody can predict what will and what won't happen in the future. None of us could possibly have foreseen what happened in Tunisia or Egypt. Or Libyan jet fighters landing in Malta! Could Algeria be next?

The best source of advice is that which is issued by your government which, if anything, will probably tend to be on the 'safe' side. For the record, the British FCO advice was reviewed and reissued today in the light of yesterday's protest marches, and states "the overall level of the advice has not changed; there are no travel restrictions in place in Morocco."

Specific reference to the protest marches: "There were demonstrations in a number of major cities across the country on 20 February, as well as looting and vandalism in Tangier, Marrakech and other locations. You should follow news reports and be alert to developments that might trigger public disturbances. You should take precautions for your personal safety and avoid public gatherings and demonstrations. Any increase in tension might affect Travel Advice."

Hey Tim thanks a lot for the infos you gave me and made me and my girlfriend leave!

Here is a picture of us on the Tizi'n Test!

Everything was ok, just had a flat tyre 30 km before Tiznit, we jumped on the back of a truck until the city then got if fixed!

Bye Bye
