In Chelsea Tractor mode, I need some extra lockable waterproof space to hold a few small things, but are too much for the top box + helmet, e.g.
- small compressor
- puncture repair kit
- some tools
- waterproofs
- other odds and ends etc.

I can't use the top box as thats full with other tat. On the way to work my rucksack is in it, and at work, my helment lives in it. Full box.

I don't want to add width by using panniers. Don't want to "wear" any of it.

So thinking along the lines of something like a padlocked ammo box securely mounted to the front or rear of the ali top box. Quite thin, so as to still allow occasional pillion to sit without having to remove the ammo box.

I have no issue with drilling holes into the top box to mount the "ammo box".

e.g.

Anyone know of a lighter weight or indeed better solution? Touratwat don't appear to sell anything.

Ideas welcome.

Turatwat or even our very own civil do a city case.
Thin like a large briefcase, suitable for laptop and other small items.
No filtering issues.
Just perfect for your commute from Brompton Rd to the city and still feel like your living the dream.

Pelican Case mounted to the side of the top box or the inside of the RH pannier rail on a GSA. Have a search on Advrider. I am considering small Pelicase for just such items on my new GSA.

I made this entire set up top box and All ,
If you look under the Top Box there is a wee Box , this is for all
kindsa wee handy items !
This particular one had to be secure ,,,,,,, so its made from Steel
with a locking lock

Any chance of a link to said products? Can't find on touratwat's site.

I don't have a picture of it currently - will sort one out if I get time, but I combined a HatTech Solo Mount plate (that replaces the pillion seat) with a Pelican Case that is waterproof and lockable via padlocks.

I did have to file some notches into the side of the plate because it fouls on the Givi rack pillion grab rail bolts otherwise.

I made sure the Pelican case was bolted to the mount plate in a way that could not be undone without lifting the plate (and so that the bolt heads were in gaps in the luggage platform rubbers of the GS).

The only other thing I needed to check was that the Pelican case did not impede opening the Givi box on the rear - so there is a gap where I have sometimes strapped inexpensive items between the Pelican and the Givi.

Just ran some sealer around the bolt heads where I drilled the Pelican to make it waterproof again... Job done.

Found a picture of all luggage fitted

In theory all that luggage locks on - although the tank bag is only held on by a mountain bike cable lock through the handlebars when I stop.

But it does show the HatTech / Pelican case solution

Can you let me know what size Pelican Case you have fitted?

Thanks

Nigel

It's a Pelican 1300 and I think the Pelican opening fouls of the Givi more than the Givi opening fouls on the Pelican so you could probably fit a larger one as long as you made it open with the hinges on one side instead of at the back.

Might see if I can get a photo of it with the lids open to show the very minor problem.

Some closer shots and it is the Pelican lid that could have a problem opening if you don't leave a gap. Which does mean you can fit a larger Pelican case sideways. Bear in mind that the Givi grab handles will still limit you fitting a case that goes wider than the plate - and if you have the OEM BMW rear rack then that may limit size in other ways... The Hattech photo in my earlier mail shows a GS with the rear racks removed which would allow you to use a case that is wider than the plate and probably still use Varios as the tops of Varios sit level with the platform.

In my setup the gap is 3.5" and I do often strap less valuable items into the gap.

Thanks.

Its to go an R1200 GSA without a topbox so looks like I can go a bit larger. I am thinking something the same size as a LHS vario liner (BMW) as that seems to be amount the maximum kit I carry without needing to stick on panniers.

Well I have now solved my problem.

I Hardigg Stromcase im2100 and 4 pipe clamps (18mm diameter) and some nuts and bolts and I have a nice little "boot" for waterproofs, spare gloves etc...
