London area map with routing?

I'll be needing to ride my GS to London Heathrow airport to pickup for a transport over the ocean.

Knowing how complex the London street-road system is and being never ridden in (silly ) left-handed traffic I reckon a GPS might be our saviour to get there w/o being completely lost, alive and in 1-piece.

Or it's doable with regular map coming from France? If not then...

Are there any decent maps of London area for Garmin, or I'll have to buy a whole damn UK map?

I've just acquired Garmin Etrex Vista HCX from fleaBay, it should have a routing option doesn't it?

Any knowledge and recommendations welcome on the issue!

You don't need a map. It's not in London anyway and right next to a huge motorway making it very hard to miss.

I'm a couple of KM from the airport. Shout if you need any help.

Does the Vista HX beep? If not I wouldn't plan on learning how to use it while driving in London....

In fact if you haven't done much GPS'ing, I'd make other plans for navigating in a place as busy, and as different than Mainland Europe as you can get...

That said.. It's easy to get to Heathrow following the signs... just don't go inside the M25...

it's fairly simple

from Central London follow the A4 west, this links to the M4, Heathrow is just off junction 3 or 4 whichever you prefer really (4 is more direct). M25 junction 14 turn right from southern approach or turn left onto the M4/Jct 15 for a northern approach & come off at jct 4 as above. Failing that follow the path of the lanes you'll see overhead with great regularity.

Coming from France ?

Only 3 roads you need worry about.

Off Ferry or out of the tunnel onto M20

Turn Left onto M25

Turn Right at J15 onto M4

Turn into Heathrow

You'll need to know which terminal you're leaving from, but thats about the hardest thing about the journey.

Don't try and get through London, go around
