Hi, i'm after 1m square of robust wire mesh, used for aviaries, gutter guards and tree protectors. The smallest roll i can get is from Wickes at 6m, which is a waste. Anyone in the SW with an odd piece lying around?
Looking for a piece of wire mesh.

Rich.....take a walk past your nearest building site.....you'll quite often find those portable enclosure type things laying around, and there'll always be a bent one where a trucky or JCB driver has squished it out of shape 
A few mins snipping with a decent pair of snips and job done

I need a fine mesh as it's to go on the bottom of our new composter, to allow airing of the compost and mainly to keep the rats out. Those enclosure doodahs don't have a small enough mesh, and B&Q only do one sheet at 0.6 x 0.9 metre square, which is a tad too small and rather expensive for what you get. We're happy to get a roll from Wickes if we have to, but an odd piece lying around would be put to good use.

If you are looking for fine wire mesh - it is often referred to as a "woven wire cloth":
I usually go to 1 of 3 places when seeking material along these lines:

www.bwire.com
www.mcmaster.com
They all should carry the sizes that you are looking for - just make sure to compare and contrast the pricing between the 3, because I have heard that a lot of buying/selling to one another can take place.
They will usually sell you smaller quantities as needed - just make sure to double check their minimum purchase before you call and buy.
