I have an 03 1150RT and have a rip in the front seat.
I am looking to get it recovered or to replace it but do not want to spend hundreds of pounds. (keeping this one for emergencies!!)
I think the seat I have is a low version but it is not necessarily required to be as such.
In an ideal world I would have the seat recovered and along with the foam being replaced have some sort of comfort insert included too.

Currently I have a stick-on patch over the problem so it is useable after a fashion although the patch does tend to move in hot weather and if I wiggle around too much........

I would like to hear your thoughts, suggestions and advice.

Professional recovering plus foam you’re looking at £200+. If you’re on a tight budget, source a second hand one.

Tony Archer used to be The Man for this but I heard he retired. Last time I spoke to his wife she said they were scaling back in preparation for it.

I’ve heard these people aren’t bad either:

depends on how many miles you do on the bike. If lots, then get the seat professionally reupholstered. For me, on long rides, comfort is a priority.

If you do not ride it much, fit one of those mesh covers over the top. This might stop the patch moving about. On a 23 year old bike, I might favour this option.

there are used ones on ebay for around £70 but will they be any better than your with a patch? Many will have come from bikes with starship mileages so unlikely to have decent padding left and show signs of wear.

What is considered "a lot of miles" nowadays? I have around 75k on the bike atm and between March / April and October I try to getaway every 5 or 6 weeks and do around 1000 to 2000 miles in five days.

then why worry about the cost of repair?

amortise the cost over 3 years of trips and it will be £10-15 per trip to have the added benefit of a more comfortable seat that looks better

I’ve used Viking seats. Top notch. Near Brands Hatch. You can post and they’ll post back.
