OK, I am looking for a pair of textile over trousers, the type that have a zip up the outside or preferably down the back of each leg. I want some CE approved knee protection and ideally suit a short leg, not fussed about posh waterproofness but windproof and a little extra warmth would be nice. Oh and finally.. reasonably priced would be good too. I want to make more use of my bike but have no means to change if I ride it to work, hence the need for it to zip easily over jeans etc.

Anybody know of any manufacturers doing such clothing? Names, links etc welcomed.

Cheers

If you don`t want to spend too much that excludes the likes of Aerostitch type trousers which have big zips to make them quick to remove.
You want a pair of textile bike trousers which virtually all the companies make. This is opposed to merely waterproof overtrousers which are just thin nylon with no protection.
Just make sure they come with the armour you require. Many will have removeable quilted linings for variations in temperature and zips at the bottom to make them easier to put on and take off. Make sure the bottoms are big enough to go over your boots otherwise your boots just fill up with water when it rains!
Middle of the road makes such as Teknic, Richa etc make good products. Most of these have a waterproof membrane within them. The most expensive ones will have the most `technical` membrane which will allow breathing, such as goretex. The cheapers ones may just be a barrier material which can get hot. If you only want them for a short commute this should not be an issue.
Don`t be afraid of getting a second hand pair off ebay, but if you do go the second hand route make a point of checking with the seller that the waterproof membrane is intact as seams can come apart, particularly in the all important crotch area!

The way the Aerostitch trousers zip down the leg is the type of thing I am after but without the $300 price tag. I know 'Revit' used to make something similar but not anymore.

I was hoping somebody may have a idea who does this sort of thing to save trawling through every manufacturers catalogue.
