Hi there chaps

Does the Lord Derby meeting still take place? Do any of you guys and gals go, if so do you meet up or just make your way there.

I am posted to RAF Odiham with effect the 1st May. Wife and kids living in Yorkshire and myself commuting every other weekend.

I plan to make the most of this new found freedom (bank balance allowing of course) so what other good meets are there in the area.

We do an evening run down to Hayling island for fish'n chips once the nights get longer.
It's all one road from RAF Odiham.
Your more than welcome to join us.

Think the Lord Derby is the first Tuesday of the month

No it's definetly on the first Wednesday of the month.

Big gathering of bikes turn up to watch the looney tunes playing silly buggers on the roundabout. When the summer months arrive so do upwards of 1500 bikes :thumb

Last time I was there I was visitin my neice and her husband - they live in Derbyfields just next door. In fact, the chef at the Lord D was their daughter's boyfriend.

yep first weds every month in the summer

DITTO.
its worth a ride out and shandy.
harley's diner monday's near oxford monday's and w/ends for a cuppa.
poole quay on tuesday's is even better.
thats my 2d worth.

Personally I think it's boring. Lots of police, difficult to walk around.

Poole Quay on a Tuesday night is better, when it opens.

i first went about 92-ish

it started out as a classic and custom bike thing.

it got waay too busy around 98/99.

Alton Station Cafe is OK loads of bikes and no coppers last time I was there, only 10 miles away, Weds nights I think.

To Haylin, I guess it is apart from the junctions in between, like Alton, :thumb

And there will be the new BM dealership just south of Alton in Farringdon, on the "one road to Haylin....:D

Used to be at Odiham myself good roads around there, check out the A339 from Alton to Basingstoke, but full of coppers at weekend, you'll soon see why, the A272 is the same, good road too many coppers, but there are a few that are free of them so can show you some if I get a pass one weekend..:thumb

delpel,
I'm seven miles away from the Lord Derby & yup, it's first Wednesday of every month.
The whole police mobbing thing was a couple of years ago and since then the numbers of gatherers has diminished a tad. You don't get a couple of thousand there any more but a couple of hundred if your lucky.

It's ok if you are meeting folk but to turn up on your own is a bit boring as there's not much to see anymore.
It's still worth popping down in the height of the season just to catch the most of a turn out.

As Snooky says, Alton Cafe is a better deal.
Folk go down there every wednesday night and once the season kicks in (give it a month) the cafe in the station car park is open late for tea and food.

Alternatively, and if you want a longer ride of an evening, go to Box Hill just outside Dorking.

Used to go to the Lord Derby a couple of times a year its OK but nothing special since they stopped the racing up & down and less and less interesting bikes were visiting, the last time i was there I got there early, stopped in the layby by the tea shack, I was immediatly approached by two policemen, i was questioned and the bike was inspected, on the way home there were speed traps 500 yrds apart on the same road and many policemen sitting at junctions.

Seemed to me to be over policed at the time so I never went back again, perhaps its better now:nenau

Info if you are not from the SE:

you have also got Boxhill which is about 45 mins ride away, - near a town called Dorking, - on Sunday's, - every Sunday, - a big hill with a big car park at the bottom. -Newlands Corner near Guildford (30 mins from Odiham) gets a few bikes on a Sunday AM. Bury Hill near (ish) to a vilage called Bury, outside of Chichester, - again Sundays.

Oh and that road south of Odiham to Alton is superb (for the South).
