Lost me maps!!

Hi i have a 2610 for which i have city nav 2008,i wanted to install this on the cf card (2GB) so like a fool I have erased all info on it.I now cannot unlock the maps on the card,i can unlock them on the pc,but when I attempt to load on to the card it informs me that the maps are locked.Is there another code I should be using or have I bu****ed it completely,help would be appreciated because i need it for maroc at end of this month.

I must admit that I don't know, but it's strange that nobody else has replied yet so I'll have a crack and give it a bump. Perhaps they're all at the East Mids weekend.

My understanding is that you only unlock the maps once ie in Mapsource. Are you sure that you've unlocked the maps to that particular unit?

I'm not sure about this,the unit had v7 on which i cleverly deleted,thinking that all that was required would be to download the already unlocked city nav 2008 from pc to card. When i press send i get the message telling me the maps are locked,yet I've just unlocked them on the pc.Is there another code for the unit?,I'm getting very confused

My understanding is that the Unlock Code unlocks your maps to a particular unit - and only that unit. So if you want to download maps to a different unit, you have to get a different Unlock Code. I think my last Unlock Code cost me £50. IIRC Garmin used to allow 1 Unlock Code to download maps to 2 units, but that has changed in the last year or so.

Have you bought the 2610 recently ie after you unlocked the maps on Mapsource?

Kevin / Whatton or Greg Masters etc are the ones you really want - perhaps they're still on the way back from the East Mids event.

Yes I bought the unlock code for 2008 and loaded it to the pc,this is the first time I've tried to load it to this unit(its registered with garmin) as its the only one I've got I don't understand why it's not unlocked for the unit itself.

Getting desperate guys, I've tried every code i can find but to no avail,I can't even use the world map and i thought that was code free,which makes me wonder if the unit has it's own individual code?

Not entirely sure but I think you might have to re-install version 7 maps to your unit before it will accept the updated 2008. If your unit came with ver 7 and the appropriate mapsource then that provides the base info. If that is not there then the new version has nothing to 'update'. IIRC I had the same issue when I tried to install just the 2008 onto my laptop without installing my original mapping first

SUCCESS!! contacted garmin with another problem.the cure for which involved editing the register,reinstalling,and bingo! we're back in action.
