Lost TomTom Rider on M4

Sad to say but the mount was probably broken before you even opened the box. This was mine as it came out of the box. Damage quite hard to spot unless you were looking for it. Three other units in my local Halfords were the same or worse when manager opened the boxes to try and get me a replacement. Best hope still lies with BBC "Watchdog" but since motorcycles are probably regarded as a minority interest its unlikely they will take up our case.

Just got this email from their Vice President product support... (forwarded to him by a member of the board. so the blanket email worked!!)

Dear Mr. ,

Thank you for bringing this under our attention, I can imagine that this must have been a horrible experience for you and your wife, and I was glad to read that this has not caused any serious accident.

At TomTom we strive to deliver the best quality possible, our mounts have been extensively tested and I personally have never heard of a cradle that just broke into two pieces. A colleague of mine will contact you today to have, everything what you have left, sent to us to find out what could have happened and to offer you the right solution.

Let me know if you have any other query.

Kind regards,

RvK

Unbelievable, they deny any knowledge of bracket/mount issues!!

I think that this needs to be spread as widely as possible on every possible motorcycle and GPS website - perhaps then they will get the message.

Garmin can be hard to contact at times but their customer service would appear to be far superior to TT

I've just sent an email back with links to a number of forums/posts that report the cradle/mount issues...

... let's see what they say

:) :) :) :) SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

I've just received this email

Dear Mr.,

Thank you for your e-mail and examples. I am aware of some of the post though I also now that we have followed the proper procedures regarding tests. Recently we developed RIDER2 – with an improved mount based on feedback from our customers.

I would like to send you the Rider 2 to hear your experience with that mount; we will also of course send you the car mount for that product.

I hope that this is a start to restore your faith in TomTom, please let me know if you have any queries or feedback regarding the RIDER 2.

Kind regards,

I have to say... I am quite impressed by the direct involvement of very Senior TT executives (all emails are cc'd to a lady that is the board of directors secretary!!). And the willingness to resolve the matter asap...

Maybe things are changing at TT. That is the type of Customer Service we should all get when we spend (loads) of our hard earned cash.

Wrting to the Board and Senior Management ...paid off

WELL DONE TOMTOM

That's an excellent result and I think writing directly to the management rather than a customer service employee helped.

Glad you didn't have a serious accident when the thing failed.

So this is the "new and improved" Rider II mount is it???

No, mine was the old one.

Just got a call from support. They are organising the shipping of the new unit (Rider 2) plus European Maps (I only had UK before) and car mount today.

Very, very impressive

Hi - received my TT2 yesterday and fitted new improved cradle. First ride tomorrow am.....I'll let you know how I get on. I've been reading a lot about the cr*ppy TT1 cradles but looking at the posts and the piccies and the actual TT2 mount - looks like they've listened......

Doesnt help people that have been let down though.

One point of interest......the TT2 ships with a 'security strap' in the box. I wasnt going to bother with it......but TT are obviously not 100% confident with the new design !!!
