Hi,

On my 1150 adventure I noticed riding this morning a loud rattle as I pass through 3000-3200 RPM under load. Doesn't do it revving in neutral, only accelerating in gear.

I did my own service recently including valve clearances, could this be related?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Rob.

Check for loose nuts and bolts before panicking about engine problems :thumb Bash plate on securely?

Was it quiet before you "serviced" it.

ooh the icy charms of Mr Steptoe :D

Yes it was quiet before I think, but it has been quiet since (for 400 miles) too. Apart from the rattle it seems to be running very sweetly indeed.

I fully acknowledge that it could be my mechanical ineptitude - although I wouldn't say I'm that bad with the spanners. Took my time and followed the "OVAD" instructions.

I suppose the bigger question is, how much should I panic? Got to ride 70 miles home from London tonight. Maybe I could drop over and get you to listen to it Mr S??

Well I took the bike to NOG today and one of the techs rode it and reckons the gearbox is on the way out

They suggested they have it in and get a couple of guys to ride it in diffrent situations and have more of a think about it but jeez if it's the gearbox that's ££££££££s. They punched it into the computer and Germany came back with 50% off the parts as goodwill, even so it'll be over a grand to fix but surely with less than 15000 miles on the clock this is unacceptible. Has anybody else had a gearbox eat itself so soon and if so, what did BWM do for you?

TIA

Bad luck :(

Are you sure its not a 1200 :nenau don't seem right to me, an 1150 having a problem

My previous bike :( 02 1150 ADV had a new gearbox at just over a year old,it wasn't rattling but 4th gear was howling, new box fitted and it was job done.
Sorry to hear of your woes,Press BWM to pay more,Good Luck ;)
