My Low Fuel light (2 spark 2004 Dakar) is comming on when the tank will only take a little over 10 litres at the pump. Any one else got this 'feature'? and why?

BillH,

As the tank in a F650 isn't huge, it is worth spending some time at the pump filling it to the brim.

Stick the bike on the centrestand and fill it till you see petrol coming over the inner flange by 1/2" or so. Should be worth another 15-20 miles before the light appears, depending on riding style. (I'm averaging around 58 mpg in hooligan mode).

BTW, I found my mileage dropped off considerably when the connector to the airbox inlet sensor came unplugged. There was a noticable drop in performance as well. :beerjug: PB

That sounds the same as my Dakar - seems that the light comes on quite early, to give you plenty of time to get to a petrol station. I can usually get about 7-8 litres in the 17litre tank when the light comes on - about half empty.

Quite handy if you're riding across the hilltops of Scotland, but a bit early when you're commuting 10miles to work and back! I like it myself, because psychologically it helps me to avoid running out of fuel.

Thanks for the tip Pondboy, I filled it to the inner brim (on the side stand as I have no centre stand). Light came on after 217 miles, and when I got to fill it at 221.5 miles, it took 12.25 litres back to the inner brim. That works out at a little over 82 to the gallon, but I expect that should improve when the engine loosens up, it's only got 1300 miles on it so far.
( I do wear rather a slippery jacket)
