Is there some kind person within easy distance of Rochdale Lancs who would let me try their LOW seat on My 1200GS before I go to the expense of altering mine or buying one please?
Tel 01706 365822
Thanks in advance John

John some questions how tall are you? inside leg? reason I ask is that I have both seats. I bought the low one when I first had the bike Sept 04 which meant I ended with both it and standard, yes you guessed it currently riding with the standard seat. To be honest it is not so hard on the ass, but if you are thinking about going lower, Touratech now have an "extra" low seat which is 20mm lower than the low OEM version....

To the couple of questions I am 5' 7" with inside leg 29 1/2 " - 30" if that helps.. it is surprising how the suspension settles.

Regards

Low Seat

5ft 7in 29in inside leg 13 stone fully kitted On tiptoes,or one foot flat on floor the other on the footrest at a stop---just need a bit extra.
Local motor cycling Cobbler is adding a bit to my boots!!

Same as me, only time I feel to high is trying to turn the thing around in narrow lanes or off road when I need to paddle backwards.

There are a few threads about adding to boots would really read before committing to change. Search "altberg"

And I say again, if you decide you really want a low seat don't buy one cos I've got a low seat which I'd like to swop for a standard one. :D

I am a short a#se (5'7" with dinky little legs to match) and bought a low seat with the bike October 2004. I have found the standard seat to be far more comfortable and no problem. I have had 2cms added to the heels and 1cm to the sole of my boots, helps a lot.
A good cobbler can easily do the job, and as long as orthopedic rubber is used, the weight penalty is minimum.
The low seat is shaped like a banana and for me uncomfortable, both through lack of padding and the tendency for it to make me slide forward into the back of the tank. So I wish I had not bought it.
Then I had an "idea", always worrying that.
I took the cover off the rear of the low seat, chopped the low foam down with a bread knife, took a bit off the plastic base with an angle grinder and stapled the cover back on. Now it has a much flatter profile, and with an air hawk seat thing is extremely comfortable for long distance touring. Looks pants but works very well. The combination being no higher than the standard seat on low setting.
Most of the above has little to do with the original thread, but am I bovered?

Cool Chris, you not believe this but the only reason I keep my low seat is for long distance trip when I add my AirHawk to it. :thumb Only way can reach the ground with a airhawk

At 5' 7" you are all taller than my 5' 4" loftiness, although my inseam is probably only about an inch less at 28 ish inches.

My bike came with both seats and I have to say that the low seat is a p.i.t.a. after only about 50 miles.

I have therefore used the standard seat all the time and as per ShaunT279, have only found a problem on very cambered surfaces up to now. On a summer trip to Spain Jane and I quickly worked out a system of her pulling the bike back out of up hill parking spaces, off cambers and verges etc., or, I simply took a deep breath and rode it out. Even with full luggage this was a workable solution.

However, I recently severely tore the ligaments in my right foot and can no longer bend my toes down as before; so, after much deliberation and the input of a few tossers; I have decided to keep the GS and have ordered an 'extra low' comfort seat by Touratech.

Delivery might be a few weeks but I believe that the seat is narrower at the front as well as lower but retains sufficient padding at the rear for reasonable comfort over distances.

We shall see!
