Here are my findings on the low seat option. These may help new buyers.
When I bought my GS last Sept I opted for the low seat in order to get both feet well planted on the road. After lower bikes, I guess I was a bit intimidated by the height of the GS.
Riding out on Friday I was conscious that I loved all aspects of the bike aside from the rock hard seat and the resultant sore bum. My local dealer was most helpful and volunteered to lend me a standard seat (set at low height) for a comparison. Well, having gotton used to the bike I now found going just a bit on tip-toe was not an issue, and the seat was far, far more comfortable. It seems the 'lowness' is achived by a mixture of midifying the seat base and removing some padding. This also makes the seat a bit wider and adds to the problems.
The dealer was a diamond and agreed a straight swap for a standard seat. Allow me to thank you from the heart of my bottom.
