Low version - how low does it go?

Exactly. With a lowered bike it feels identical to a standard bike, except when you stop. Ground clearance and heel angle are only relevant at the extremes of riding - neither bike is a super sports or throw around off road machine. I could have spent £175 less and got a bike that is heart in mouth each time I put my foot down and find a pothole or adverse camber. I don't get low seats - for me it messes with the riding position, with bunched up legs and an even more upright and uncomfortable stance. Low seats always have less padding and so end up being more uncomfortable unless you go aftermarket. Lowering the suspension preserves the riding position of the original bike and drops the centre of gravity. What's not to like?

Lots of opinions on here , but only you will know .
I never had the knee problem or angle you are talking about with the lowered seat
until i tried the new RT on the lowered seat standard bike , (The RT is an itch that i can never scratch) there was a definite difference in the angle of my knees compared to the GS WC, no matter how good the RT is ,
I feel I could still ride further on a GS...........strange .

I am 6ft with 31 inch inseam, 113 Kg (249 pounds), so short legs long torso. My experience has been:

2012 Versys 650, tippy toe footing (dropped bike 3 times in 1 year at low speed, footing issue).

2013 R1200 GSW lower than Versys but not firmly flat footing (never came close to dropping, 15 mths, 9500 klm)

2015 R1200 GS lower than 13 GSW, able to flat foot confidently with a slight knee bend. I have actually put the seat into the highest position for the first time ever and lowered my SW Motech foot pegs.

So, the 15 GS on paper is the same height as he 13 & 14 but my experience is that it is lower once I am sat on it.

I'd love to know what component makes it lower - I have the 2014 with low seat and it would be perfect with another 10-15mm.

I assume no one rides with a pillion and luggage to far flung adventures ? I have no problem with the seat height ( 5'9" , 29" inside leg ) riding solo , but fully loaded with a pillion and the bike fully jacket up , there where a few comedy situations....One minute you are touching the ground , pillion gets off the bike, tiny legs are suddenly flapping in the air:D
Just saying...
NOG have a lowered factory GSA , it fells lower than the new R1200R:duno:duno

I've got ESA on 'single rider' and the seat bobbins. Almost perfect except those odd moments on off camber roads.

Might have been suspension settings.

My suspension settings are stock and as low as possible, just like on my 13. The sales reps at the dealer say the 15 feels the same as the 13/14 to them but they are only about 75 KG. I suspect this 15 has a softer rear spring that compresses more with my weight?

Whatever it is I can defo flat foot the 15 more than my 13 and as stated I have actually put the 15 seat up to high which I could never have done on my 13.
