Lower seat than the "low seat" available ?

Sorry if this topic has been much-asked before ........ but ........... I test rode a GSA1200 with the "low seat" option offered by BMW and still found it a wee bit on the tall side for my weedy 31" inside leg.

OK, I'm not exactly a midget but it was still a stretch mounting and dismounting the bike, which, by the way, was as stable as the stablest thing I've ever ridden on the go.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is an even lower conversion seat or conversion option or any other sensible option that I haven't thought of ?


Note: still worried by tiny dabs of rus on what was after all a pretty new demonstrator bike ... eek !
 
Odd, I have a 30" inseam and ride a 12GS with the stock seat in the low position. I am flat footed. Wonder if the suspension is set too high/hard?
 
did you ride with the stock seat on the low setting..................or the low seat which has only one setting?
 
HI my other name is stumpy. I have a 29" inside leg and get on okay with the seat on low setting - both feet on toes and balls of feet or one foot flat but of course I have develpoed excellent slow speed steering and balance.

The other option that I have heard about from the dealer is to put a standard GS seat on it which will lower it even further. Failing that look for some platforms on fleabay... (I will answer that one before you ask it - Platform shoes/boots, the de-riggeur in gear of the seventies). If you dont know ask your dad.

It was a standard GSA "low seat" as is ...... nothing else. No adjustment I think.

I know GSs pretty well and this was "high" and I know what I mean by "high" too. View is fantastic from the perch on the GSA (as you know) but I would need the thigh muscles of an acrobat to master safe egress every (and I eman every) time (know what I mean ?).

Beauty of the bike is its lightness compared to my standard GSA1150 (with a BMW low seat) which is a beaut but still a heavy old girl and still not as high as the GSA1200.

At my age, trying to negogiate dodgy British urban roads on 'stops' on the balls of the feet is not what I want to do for fun. Specially with a pillion (swmbo).
 
I have a GSA and got the Touratech Kahedo extra low seat and can manage okay, balls of feet or one flat foot, 30" inseam, at least that is what my jeans say! Can't mangage with the seat that came with the bike even on the low setting. I also tried the extra low GS seat on the GSA and that was fine too, the Kahedo seat just looks a bit better. The Sargent extra low seat gets great reviews but is more expensive.
 
I have just got the touratech extra low seat for my gs..........and i can say that it is lower than the bmw low seat.........i would say well over a inch lower, and the seat is very comfy...unlike the bmw one......
mindyou i'm still only just on the balls of me feet on the floor, and i know that if i put me feet down on a bad camber, i still can drop her........hence i have got the slow ridin down to a very fine art.....:o
 
I heard there was a bloke taking seats appart and re doing them to make 'em lower.

made a difference of 25mm to lowest of the low but seats like concrete....

hi try smart rrses in york ,insert gell pad he is on ebay.very busy man though ,iam getting it fitted next week ,to a cut down stanard seat feel fre to get in touch if want more info

I to am "vertically challenged" however I have stock seat on my GSA on the lowest setting and suspension on lowest pre load thingy. With panniers on and a passenger the rear end will drop down significantly leaving botn feet flat on floor.
The suspension does drop after a bit of time anyway and solo I can get one foot flat or both on the balls of my feet.

PS how much for platforms??:nenau
