Any members use GIVI lugage on their GS? Are there any problems fitting it? I've an E46 box and two E36 panniers.

Seems a waste to return it my GIVI stuff back to the garage rafters and buy another set of luggage for a GS.

Ian,

Yes I did, moved to an Aprilia after doubts, mainly driven by members comments here, about the GS reliability issues, and then a dealer taking the p*ss with offers on the Fazer and not willing to move on prices or extras. The GS is still the bike I fancy, and from a quick glance around the reliability issue seems less, though still there in some cases. Maybe the newer models are better. It will be a while yet so I'll continue to watch the comings and goings and see how it pans out.

I've got Givi E36's on my 1200GS. Fitting the pannier frames was very easy, but they do tend to suffer the usual Givi malaise of poor finish. If you go that route its worthwhile getting them painted properly before fitting them.

ahh, you post on the focu site :D

i have a fazer 1000 and am slowly building up the courage to buy a Gs, probably next year, might even try for a late low milage 1100, or a new 1200, as i think they are getting better in the reliability front :clap

Thanks Bob,

I've found my GIVI stuff to be spot on for quality, even survived me trying to get the Aprilia through a gap not wide enough!

Ian,

I didn't have such doubts, I liked the GS when riding it, yes the power is way way less than the Fazer, but in all honesty the way i ride I don't need 140BHP. My Aprilia has the same power as the GS, just under 100, yet it is moree than adequate for real world riding. It has the added benefits of being great two up, like I found the GS, and brilliant on the less than perfect B roads I do a lot of riding on.

It's just the adapting to the completely different power delivery that i have taken a while to get used to, toher than that, I ahve no regrets at changing. The Mrs. prefers the Aprilia too, and loved the GS when we tried it, so I can't lose on that score!

I use Givi's cause I got em for £50!!!! (secondhand of course). They work ok and carry stuff, don't flap about and haven't affected the handling. I'm happy. If i drop it and they break then I won't cry cause they cost me naff all

A Happy Bunny

Bought my GS12 in May, had the Givi rack dealer fitted as I already had the boxes, and could not fit our helmets in the factory luggage.

Bought the bike on a Saturday, had the first service on the following Wednesday, then set off on a 2500 mile two-up French tour on the Thursday.

No problems with stability, despite having rather more than the reccomended 10kgs per box.

This included 130 kph autoroute stints, and much bend-swinging on the Route Napolean!

The only issue is that they are wider than the standard luggage, but outside of that no problem at all.

Like all luggage, you need to ensure the weight is evenly distributed, but you could argue this is easier with the Givi, as both boxes are of equal size, unlike the standard kit. :thumb

I did notice the BMW boxes are a lot smaller, the panniers omething like 15 ltr per side smaller than mine. Something to consider for sure, less capacity, and the added expense.

Yep, I've got 2 x E360's and a Maxim (52ltr) on my 1200GS, fitting the racks was very easy, :P no quality problems at all. :clap

Had the same boxes on various bikes for 5 years. :bounce1

I have an E52 topbox, which is great, and BMW system panniers. The GIVI is much stronger than the BM cases.

The GIVI is also pretty strong as it won a battle with the front of a VFR a few weeks ago!!! Bent the subframe though!! My mates GIVI panniers then went down the road and protected the side of his bike nicely!

Echo the crap finish though. Get all the metal powder coated first.
