Hi there
I have been looking around for a nice black GS and come across an 1150 reg LV51 EF0 for what seems a good price from a trader. its showing 25900 miles and was a 'stolen recovered' The seller has no service history, and the GS world being a relatively small one, I just wondered if anyone knew this bike, and could let me in on some of its history.

I am due to pick it Saturday, so any help gratefully received before then!

Thanks for the advice Nin, I did an HPI and it came up with Cat C total insurance loss, and a change of plate too. Th eplate change was to a personal one, so I won't worry about that, but I am now concerned about the total loss, as I understand that bikes don't need to be checked out before going back on the road.

More digging around methinks, but probably time to walk away... ho hum

Thanks again Nin

Cat C is not so bad, so long as it is CHEAP. Like really cheap. And you can be confident it has been repaired correctly.

See here for more.

HPI will investigate the reasons for write off and put you in touch with the insurer who wrote it off as part of the service.

Cat C

Cat c just means that the cost of repairs was more than the value of the vehicle, but dont forget that those costs are New prices and BMW service rates.

If its been repaired by the owner or non authorized dealer, and with aftermarket or second hand parts it may well be fine at half the price.

My wifes bike was recently knocked over by a car backing into it, the laour charges for fixing it were over £500, I did the work myself.

Even Cat A or B somtimes are not a problem u just have to check. I have an old harley and it was witten off as a CAT B some years ago because the frame was bent, but a new frame was ordered from harley with the same frame number and the old one destroyed. Perfectly fine repair but you have check.

Thanks for your responses; I think I will look somewhere else where I can be more sure about the history.

Lol
