I recently bit the bullet and bought an imac.

Can't say I'm disappointed, does what it says on the tin, and looks cool too.

So my question.........

As a PC user of many years, I now find myself wanting to develop a website, and need something that offers a little more than the iWeb app thatwas provided with the mac.

Any recommendations for good and preferably free website dev tools. My current site was developed with Serif, and I've used frontpage and good old HTML in the past, but looking for something simple offering reasonable facilities. Having bought the mac, I currently have no / low budget so don't / can't consider the big boys.

I want to host simple pages, information and some photos. Longer term I maybe want a blog / private members area (login and simple posts / forum).

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Check out WordPress.com

It will do everything you want it to and if you want a better theme then you can chose one from 000's for $30 - $40 Dollars - Simples

Wordpress as already recommended. I use Textpattern.

Both are CMS and there are loads of free themes for both.
Mine looks like this. Its TXP and everything on it is freeware.

Depends how simple you want to be Thauma, I used the iWeb for my websites, did it all misen ... and I'm a total numpty

www.adventure.gs

Good enough for my requirements but I'm a simple fella :rob

I'd also go for Wordpress.

If you want more freedom to use themes and plugins you need to get some hosting. It's a very versatile system.

Some examples I maintain: eg1, eg2, eg3
