Macbook Pro Retina Display....Attachments.....

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptop….My first Mac, and to be honest I’m seriously underwhelmed by it (on a number of levels)...though I'm guessing this is an easy fix for those in the know.....

When i write an email and want to attach a photo….as in, write email/click on paperclip/click on ’Photos Library’ and try to ‘add file’ the whole of the Photos library is being attached before I can see the individual picture files.


I’ve had a Google and people who have had this issue have said that the photo library in Finder needs to be in list view. I have tried all the views and non of them work any differently. Note, individual picture files open fine when opening via Finder but not when opening Finder via the email paperclip.


Hope this makes sense……I would be very grateful for any help……Thank you…..

I export the pic to the desktop and upload from there. There may be a better way but it works fine for me.

That's exactly how I've been doing it but I thought that it was just a 'workaround'. Surely a file from Finder/Photos Library/Choose file should open from email ??.....

I'm too ancient and decrepit to know any better. I've had Macs for 20+ years and must have discovered/been told how to do it this way.

i don't use that new fangled Photos, but in iPhoto/Aperture you just highlight the pic you want, then click on share and choose email.

in iPhoto, you could also drag the required pic straight from the app onto the desktop/into an email, but that doesn't work in Aperture. you have to Export. maybe Photos is the same?

Another way to do this is to use the picture view from within Mail.

Create your email and on the top right you will see an icon. (The left of these two)

This then opens the photo view, either your photos in Photos or iPhoto which you can then choose to put in the email.

Hope this helps. Stick with it Jonnie, as with all changes in life, you need to persevere a little and then you will find that everything works and everything is there, it's just a different way to do things.

Macs do 'just work' but you need to unlearn the Windows way of doing things. They are different.

This may be a poor analogy but think of it as the difference between your bike and a British bike. The gears and back brake work but you have to get used to them being on the opposite foot. Once you've got used to it it all fits into place.
As humans it generally takes 3 months to get used to change. An example I was given, if you work at a desk move your bin to the other side of your chair. You'll get used to where it is but it takes a while.

Once you've learned how to use the Mac you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner.

Use the tutorials on the Apple websites, they're quite good.

I promise you, I HAVE done exactly that.

I'm going to contact Apple support and see what they say......Watch this space......

Macs have lots of issues and quirks. I'd tried a few over the years and they were terrible things and always crashing. three years ago we bought an iMac and it's brilliant and very reliable, however, using pcs all day for work it seems to take a million mouse clicks on the Mac and lots of shuffling round of files to achieve anything. When your used to outlook apples mail apple is dreadful.
