Good day ladies and gentlemen, I'm back on a GS after almost 10 years away....last one a 100GS, this one a 2005 12GS; with a 2000 R1, Tiger, XJ900, K75 and most recently a BMW R12s in between. I heard of this forum on the "Boxertrix" 11 and 12s enthusiasts forum. ( no subscription on there !!! ) As always with BMW owners, these forums are a great source of knowledge and friendship.
I live in Zummerset, enjoy a cider or two, and am using the GS to travel down those small lanes once again!
So, how does a R12s compare to a R12GS? Why the swap?
My riding has changed over the years, and now all my speed is on the track and the R12 has been an excellent ride on both road and track. It was a very quiet ride compared to the GS, so I think I will need to look at sorting the screen out, the noise is awful! The second observation on the first ride is the gearing at speed on the GS seems too low, giving the impression the engine is working hard, with accompanying vibes even at 80. On the R12s 6th was so right, and the engine so quiet.
However, the ride position was never quite right, with legs a little too jockey like over distance, and, for me, too much weight on the wrists. ( although I know an IAM observer who loves his 12s and has no such problems. )
I love the GS feeling of the rear digging in and the ease with which you can counter steer and turn so tight- this is going to be fun!!
Look forward to talking again, Macca and out.
