Hi there.
Im absolutely hell bent on buying a megamoto when/if our house sells.:D

I have a cracking 57 GS atm, with tons of essential extras fitted.

My question is, we tour 3 or 4 times a year, few hundred miles, nowt massive and love to camp, not b+b.
At the moment I have the 3 vario boxes and a massive ortleib bag that I take, so I am well spoilt.
Do MM owners recon it is a possibility to use the MM for camping?
I cant afford to keep both bikes and the MM will be used for day run outs most of the year.

What are your thought?

Are paniers a possibility? metal or soft?

Would a couple of ortlieb bags work accross the back seat/rack? I can see the seat is really narrow for this.

Cant find any threads on anyone camping with the MM so I may be unlucky:(

I suppose anything is possible, but it's really not what the bike is about in my opinion.

I know people have GS's with lots of extra's fitted, how many are "essential" is a matter of perspective I suppose. It is possible to fit luggage, Holan is probably a good place to start (Link), but would ruin the bike for me.

Do you really want a Megamoto, or is the GS you've already got the right bike for you ??

I think you need to decide what it is you really want to do with the bike, rather than buying a bike, and then trying to turn it into something it isn't, then ending up disappointed with the result.

Megamoto, a sprint tourer maybe, as a full on tourer with hard bags loaded to the hilt - waste of a damned good bike.

My 2p. Sorry :(

Have a read through THIS;

I think it says it all.
I've said elsewhere that you can do a World Tour on a C90,but you would'nt really want to.GS= Grand Tourer,MM= Sprint Tourer. I bought my Megamoto as the GS i had was more bike than i needed.

My 2p chucked in with Joe Bar's.

Thanks for that.
The GS is great for touring (maybe 20% of usage) but for the rest of the year, I suppose the GS is way more than I need really and then the MM would suit me much more (80% of the time).

So I guess I am looking to see if I can squeeze enough out of a MM to justify buying one. As soon as I get back home touring, the mods will be removed of course.

I so much love the MM, the uniqueness, looks and from the reviews ive read, I shouldnt be dissapointed in the rideability.

DT, have you missed your GS at all?

we tour 3 or 4 times a year,

So all the camping gear and a pillion!

or is the pillion riding their own bike?

MM for camping .... maybe you need to change the style of camping you do.~
Bivvy Bag or/and Hammock.

Eat in McDonalds~ sleep in the woods :augie

No pillion.
your right tho, I will have to clamp down tightly on what I take.
(Once I find out from this thread what options I have and space)

edit:
just realised Ive misspelt the thread title. what a divvy! Cant edit it now either doh!

Yes, ive read that thread, and most threads TBH. Thats the thread that attracted me to a MM in the first place. The bike, the locations etc... Fantastic!
He has a bit luggage, maybe I need 1 or 2 more bags like on the rear or would soft panniers fit maybe?

TBH,At times. The "Swiss Army Knife" element of the GS really can't be overstated. It WILL do everything that you throw at it and do it all quite well.
I decided that i was never going to use mine to its best capability and felt the MM suited my usage and needs better.

That should have Muddied the Waters nicely :augie .

I have the Holan racks on my HP2 and have toured two up - longest week was 2500 miles in a week, fully loaded. The bike did remarkably well and the Holan racks work out very well (although, as the seller of them I could be accused of being biased :D )

Here is mine set up for touring:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasemarkos/1469130807/" title="IMGP1290 by jsmarkos, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1148/1469130807_b1f6b2316f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="IMGP1290" /></a>

The racks aren't that big a deal to take on and off... but I leave mine on all the time. For smaller, shorter trips - the racks make a great place to mount soft bags as well.

Any questions on the Holan racks, just drop me a PM :thumb2

The silencer is too high to fit soft panniers (I tried 3 different sets) without some sort of frame / bracketry to keep it away from the silencer, and I didn't want to go down the route of fitting frames.

The single large rear bag does fine for what I need, I don't tour two up the MM, I've still got my Rockster for that, along with panniers and top box.

TT zegatex tailpack

not wanting to fit frames on my HP2 got a Touratech Zegaflex tailpack that fit all my camping gear plus tools (around 4 kilos) plus 5 lt jerry ..

I think the TT tail pack costs around GBP 270.00 and is specifically made for the HP2 so it clears the exchaust.

(got a pic that shows the set up but can't upload here - can email if you want.)

Ahhh, the inexorable decline of the pound means it's now a mighty £369

The Wolfman Beta is similar, not quite as large, but not quite so salty at £125.

wow, great thanks, so many ways to have a mini GS only when I need tho.
Mav, does mountingthe brackets damage the paintwork on the frame at all? And when they are removed is there anything that remains like stiffeners etc?

Also, my mate has trax panniers and I like those better than the BM ones (and guaranteed 100% waterproof), would those fit your brackets?:thumb

They don't mark the frame - they mount under the saddle and down to the footpegs (which also helps strengthen the subframe). And yes, they do a version to hold Trax panniers:

I think the Trax pannier look good :thumb2

With a couple of these strapped on makes 100ltr without the tank bag: -

And this looks better than all the other similar items, also wunderlich: -
