In France at the moment and have used post office c/card at several supermarkets & branded stations with no problems at all.
A fuss over nothing, there is always a way round if you use a bit of common.

Today is Tuesday, not Sunday. It doesn't count.

Well I had a major problem getting fuel on Sunday in France. Card was rejected twice, tried another one and that was rejected too!

Then I put my reading specs on and realised I'd been pressing the wrong button and was cancelling the transaction :blast :blast :blast

Tried first card (Saga credit card as recommended by gentlemen of this parish) and it worked fine :beerjug:

Sadly it would seem French petrol stations can't compensate for someone being a dickhead :D

Saga was the clue.

There used to be an issue with UK cards in French 'pay at the pump' machines but my understanding and experience is that all has been well for at least the last five years. If the problem has returned I'll just sign up for a Carte Bleue which was my intention prior to everything working.....

Through the years of travelling in France I've made a rule about fuel on a Sunday...................... Only ever use Intermarche. They always accept UK cards, and there is always one listed in the sat nav.

Also, get a Post Office credit card. Get your Euro's on it, and you can get the excess back to Sterling at no charge........ The exchange rate is also the same rate at which you bought them at................. and there is no charge for using it abroad either !

Saved me a few quid this year over the Barclays rip off card I usually use.

I know the feeling only too well :beerjug:

Today, London wreaks revenge on French bikers.....

They even put the 'Hors-Service' warning at the top of the list.

That'll teach 'em!

Just ridden from Caen to Limoges using autoroutes.
Not one manned booth open, not one cash booth open.
And the only open lanes had the No Bikes signs.

So out of curiosity, what did you do? Use a card in the No Bike lanes?
Mick

livin' the dream

Had no option. I suspect that I overpaid once ... the only operator was tied up with a non-working card in the only other lane.

This thread has now morphed into reports on motorway toll booths, out of order petrol pumps in SE London and just about anything as far removed from its birth (itself dubious) as it can get. So it's time to put it out of its misery.

Until the next, "Me card don't work" (there will be one, trust me).... That's all, Folks!
