It's very easy to do, but not intuitively apparent.
Here's how to do it:
1) Zoom the map screen in a bit if you are at a wide zoom view. The tighter you zoom in, the more precise the marking of your new waypoint will be.
2) Touch the map on the screen. It will then change slightly, instead of having the directions across the top and data fields along the right side, you will see a full screen map, with a few buttons across the bottom. The biggest button - the one in the middle - will say 'Save as Favourite'.
3) Move the map around with your fingertip (if necessary) so that the arrow symbol is over top of the place that you want to mark as the new waypoint. TIP: If you touch directly on top of the vehicle symbol (the triangle) in step 2, you normally won't have to move the map.
4) Press the 'Save as Favourite' button on the bottom. If you want to edit the name of the new waypoint, press the 'Advanced' button. If you don't want to edit the name, just press OK.
That's all!
There is a significant advantage to this new method compared to the old method (pressing a button to mark present position). With the new method, you can mark a new waypoint without necessarily being directly on top of it - you just skid the map around until the arrow is on top of the place you want to mark. With the old method, you could only mark spots that you were actually parked on.
