Anyone out there bought the Mane Event pannier inner bags? Bought a pair recently and the left hand, small one is about 30mm too deep for the case whether in expanded or non-expanded mode.

Have returned them to David at Mane Event and he's at a loss to explain as the dimensions are correct as far as he knows and he's had no complaints from other customers.

I'm baffled. David has kindly offered a full refund, but I'd rather not have to spend loads more on the BMW version.

Hi Mouse,
Not sure why you're asking unless BMW have changed the pannier dimensions. Have measured the minimum internal depth of the pannier as 128mm.

they can't be too deep expanded or non-expanded ?

they must be too deep or MILES too deep.

So were they 30mm too deep in expanded mode then ?

I think we should know - just in case....

Sorry, I should explain more fully.

The bags have a second zip to increase their depth for when the panniers are expanded. With the the pannier and bag non-expanded the bag is 30mm too deep.

With the bag and pannier expanded the bag is again 30mm deeper than the pannier.

I was asking as I thought it might be possible that you have a faulty pannier.

I've just measured mine. The lid is 50mm deep, and the base part is either 80mm or 135mm depending on whether it's expanded or not.

So that pretty much agrees with your measurements.

Mane Event inner bags....

Are you sure you've not got two right hand bags.............?

I have tried the Mane Event bags and they fit perfectly....expanded and normal......much better than the BMW OE ones, which I also have.......

The full size 'right' & 'topcase bag is here on the left and the other bag is the 'left' small bag, both in unexpanded mode.....

Hi Dutch,
Thanks for the photo. The two bags I had (now back with Mane Event) were just like your picture. Any chance you could measure the depth of the smaller one for me?
rgds,

Now got some measurements of pannier and inner bag depths.

Non-expanded: Bag 155mm. Pannier 128mm. 27mm difference

Expanded: Bag 205mm. Pannier 176mm. 29mm difference.

Pannier depth refers to the minimum internal depth of pannier body and lid.

Can anyone out there offer their measurements?
ta,

Dutch,
So you're saying your inner bag is too deep also, but you've not noticed?

David used measurements supplied by BMW and then got BMW Riders Scotland to test them.

harv - only slightly less confused

I tried the bags David sent me, and they seemed to fit..............but they were certainly not stuffed to capacity......

I don't use them regularly as I already had the BMW items.....

I'm not a Beta tester for ManeEvent, I just manage their website and David just 'pays' me in kind........okay?

It's not accurate to say the BMW Riders Scotland were asked to test them.......we received a set on the basis described above and detailed feedback was given to ManeEvent, which included the fact that we felt that the material was too thick and therefore not 'squishy' enough to fit the odd inner shape of the left bag.

We also suggested that the bags would benefit from not having the rigid bottom for the same reason. Whether these suggestions have made it to production, I have no way of knowing.

I trust this clarifies our involvement....but equally I realise it still doesn't address your original query........they simply don't fit properly!

Cheers

Hey Dutch,

Was only after I posted I realised you're part of BMW Riders Scotland. No slur was intended in any way to you or David for that matter. Sorry to wind you up.

They've still got rigid bases.

Can anyone else offer their experience?

No problem.....not wound up....just a little pissed off that ManeEvent seem to have missed the boat with these particular bags....................the quality is good & the price very attractive , compared with the BMW ones.......shame about the measurements.

I don't think David makes huge stocks of these so it's quite possible that he can alter the design quite quickly.

'll give him a call and see what transpires.....

Cheers
