HI Folks

I hope someone can clarify this for me.

This seems a bit odd, as I always want to give insurance companies accurate info so they have less of an excuse for not paying out if something happens

I'm trying to get insurance for a 1150GSA it's a 04 plate so as far as I'm concered year of manufacture is 03/04, but all insurance companies only seem to have the year of manufacture as 02, so they can't insure my GSA on a 04 plate.

though the 1150GS appears to be listed okay any ideas or clarification would be helpful.

cheers

.

Ho Roddy, you can work out when your bike was made using THIS then you can print it out and fax it to your insurance.

Good luck.../Rob

Must be some mistake somewhere. Just insured my 05 Adventure with BMW no problem at all. :nenau

Well I had an 03 Adventure and now have a March 05 Adventure, and I had to wait for both to be built, so I guess your insurance company doesn't know what it's talking about :D

Charles

Guys go have a look at the on-line quote system of

BMW insurance
Devitt (I know there the same )
Choice quote
Bennetts
Ebike

and few others I tried they all say R1150 Adventure 2002-2002 as year of manufacture.

I know it's pish but thems the facts

According to the VIN Decoder, my 1150GS Adv was manufactured 03/2003. I wonder if by this time, the Adventures already came with the shorter 1st gear? Any inputs?

My GSA is older than it looks!!

Mmm, according to the VIN Decoder my 03 GSA which I bought new from Germany was manufactured in.....................December 2001! it has a very low chassis number and has single spark, ABS and non servo! I think it may have been one of the first Adventures made!! But, as with all BMWs the older they are the better the build quality :thumb and when I compare it to all my mates GSsss this seems true as theirs are all crap!! :D Mind you, when we swapped pannier frames one day we found the bolt holes on the two bikes rack mounts were miles apart!! Just shows how the tollerances on the 'newer' bikes have slipped!

Don't know if this will work in the Phillipines, but I was able to find out whether my Adventure had the lower first gear, just by ringing the local BMW dealer and giving them the Reg No or VIN number. Even though it had originally been sold back in 2003 by another dealer, all the info was still on their computer records.

erm.....

I wonder how reliable that VIn Number thingie - linky is.

I just imput the last 7 digits of my bikes VIN.

Shows Date of manufacture as 12/99

which has confused me completely...

Code:
"In August 1999 the final R11GS rolled off the production line in Spandau, Berlin. It had been the most successful model of the GS models with 39,104 examples produced since September 1993. The R850GS continued unchanged."

And then after the holiday production of the 1150 began.

Can anyone suggest an answer to this little puzzle

Just ride it in first gear, 20mph @ 2500 rpm = normal ratio
20mph @ 3000 rpm = low 1st gear

Don't rely on the option codes, my SE supposedly doesn't have the low first but in fact it has.

I'm not sure what the source is but if it's DVLA based, all DVLA records show December and year because they only register the year of maufacture not the month.

It's likely that it is DVLA data licenced as in HPI records etc.

That could be due to spec changes.

I understand that the low first was standard in the USA market and the longer first was the option.

Could be that the low first was standard on the SE (end of production model)hence no option of low being listed?

I doubt it has anything to do with DVLA... It's a Japanese website.

I've just had a look at the site, it appears the search is for BMW car VIN's.

That's the trouble with 'last seven' searches.

The last seven of a VIN is the "unique" section but only when the other ten characters are searched.

Not very, unless bikes are usually built after they've been ridden for about 1500 miles
