Map of all Alpine Passes

most useful - thanks for posting :beerjug:....... maybe this should be a stickie (somewhere!)

Thanks Balders1450.

Here are the same Google map's waypoints converted into Mapsource, via Tyre.

Tyre / Google maps conversions sometimes make some slight positioning errors but it's probably good enough. It would be easy to tidy-up when plotting routes.

On closer inspection, Tyre seems to have converted just 50 of the passes. :blast

I will see if I can get it to convert the rest, though I fear it may have to be done manually, pass by pass.

Im on my phone so cannot see mapsource but is that more than the 160 odd posted in the waypoints section.
Always found that pretty good but still the more the merrier!

I plan routes in G maps first, then put "Long & Lat" waypoints from G maps into my TT Rider, simples..... ok so you have to punch in a few numbers....Tyre is no good on a Mac!! :thumb

G maps not so good if you run a Garmin / Mapsource. Hence the need to convert via Tyre or something similar to get it into an exportable / transferable GPX exchange file that Mapsource can read. G maps are fine for TomToms though.

The G map markers are Mapsource's equivalent of waypoints, which Tyre can convert. Unless I have done something wrong, Tyre seems to only convert 50 at a time, hence the need to batch them into smaller sets, do a conversion and then save the batches into one final Mpasource file...... If I can be bothered to.... which I probably can't :D

great, just where I am heading to in July :thumb2

Just spent ages planning next years 2 trips to France, Germany, Italy, Swiss and Austria, no m/ways, no tolls, all across country by the "twisty ist" routes available taking in as many passes as possible, even got all hotels booked!

Yep it sounds sad, but it gives me something to think about through the winter months, and as we've been doing it for the last 10 years it gets easier planning which roads to use as you know the best routes etc.....can't wait :ronno

Nothing sad about that at all. Planning it all out, getting used to looking at maps and distances, booking hotels, using a bit of imagination and all the other bits'n'bobs are a big part of building a holiday that YOU want rather than just relying on others to do it all for you. After 10 years you have probably got it all off pat.

What would be good though is if you could post up some examples of routes you have done, with an idea of the times taken. These would be handy for those that are new new to touring and would give a basic picture at least of another bod's 'real world' experiences. They would go a long way to answering bods' often heard plea.... "I have got three days and I want to do the Alps on great roads....."

Both your links return the Google maps message: We could not understand the location http:%2F%2Fspreadsheets.google.com%2Fpub%3Fkey%3DpuDAc87h69e9biRi22kC0bQ%26output%3Dtxt%26gid%3D2%26range%3Dkml

The links open Google maps OK but the waypoints which you are trying to display are not there. Can you try copying the URL as if you were inserting it into an email and then post that up, please.

Can you create your database as a conventional Excel spreadsheet, rather than as a Google doc?
