Hi

I recently bought a Quest 1 which came with map source v6 and european city select v6.

Couple of questions:

First is "mapsource" different from "european city select"? and if so, what are the boundaries of each product?

Second, any ideas if & how I can get some updates - the information in this bundle is maybe 3 or 4 years out of date; am i entitled to updates to the current versions?

cheers

jon

Mapsource AFAIK is the generic term for the system that you interface with on the PC. Mapsource uses City Select / Navigator to show you the mapping on the PC.

City Select / Navigator is the mapping product that you interface with on the GPSR and PC.

Have a look here for the latest mapping and links to FAQ's: http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp

I bought one of the recent bargain Quests as well, and have just received my version 8 maps from Garmin, to upgrade from the v6 that came in the box. There's a few threads on here on how to go about it, but as I understand, you're entitled to one upgrade in the first 12 months after registering the product with Garmin. I don't think there's any absolute reason to register the maps that came with the Quest, assuming you already have the unlock codes, but you can't claim an upgrade until you have registered.

Take a look on the Garmin site, as it has upgrades to the Quest firmware, plus proper English voices for the turn instructions, and FOC upgrades to the Mapsource s/w. It also tells you how to claim your FOC upgrade for the maps - basically you email Garmin and ask for it :thumb

Email sent... hopefully i will soon have a version which doesnt have non-existant petrol stations, restraunts which closed 3 years ago and two way roads that only allow you to go one way :)

No. You are entitled to the most current version of the map available at the date you register the product. Typically the map CD in the box is outdated when you buy the GPS.
