Map Source software question

I have bought a second hand 2610 from one of the GS member. It came with Map Source V6.5. Do I need to download the version that I can see on the Garmin site to update it? (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209), thanks.

Also I have downloaded the POI Loader for Windows, as I understand I can load POI (ie Speed camera) onto the 2610 (I do that with my PDA that runs TomTom). Am I correct? Thanks again

Not sure about the first question.

POI loader doesn't work with the 2610. You need the old overlay map of the speed cameras from PocketGPSworld. Difficult to get it to work properly, sometimes. When selecting the speed camera maps, it is best to zoom right out so that you can see that it is actually two overlapping maps - one of the UK, one of Europe - and they both need to be selected to download to the 2610.

In order to upgrade Mapsource, you need to install the one from your disk... then you will definitely want to update to a later version...

The absolutely latest version has some graphics changes that perform badly on older computers... so you may not want to go to the latest... but it is possible to find (not sure where, do a search) a later version.

I believe 6.13.7 is the latest version that doesn't suffer poor performance... it has lots of bells and whistles that older versions don't...

Thanks guys for the reply. Another question, I was going through the 2610 manual and don't know if I am missing something, they refer to the Guide Setup, this did not come with the unit I bought. In particular this paragraph
"In order to ensure a successful installation, carefully the instructions outlined in the Setup Guide, ... Then, it tells you how to download the required software drivers for the USB cable..."
Did a quick search for the Setup Guide but could not find anything, can anyone help me on that one and guide me through or send me a link on where to find the guide, thanks.
