Well chaps, I've finally succumbed to the world of GPS................!!

Those who know me well, know my preference for using more traditional methods of navigation on a bike, such as maps, the sun etc and a general loathing of GPS mainly on the grounds of me being a technophobe, price (I always like Value For Money) and seeing some others getting themselves 'tied in knots' whilst trying to use GPS.

So with Judge's 'words of wisdom', that GPS is only an aid to Navigation, not a complete replacement for maps, charts, compass etc

I bought a Garmin Quest (following a tip-off on UK GS'er) from Dixons in Middlesbrough this morning...............for the bargain price of £79.97 - so my Value For Money sensibility was well and truly satisfied.

At £80 it's a complete bargain and was brand new (obviously) in a sealed box, from a locked shop cabinet (not a display model)
Everything is there, as it should..........and includes 12 months warranty naturally!!

So Andy...............when's your next series of GPS courses???

What's Mapsource?? I'll soon learn..........promise

Which Bike mount??? or will it be ok strapped to the Adv's crossbar pad with gaffa tape :D

Hard wired to bike power (which lead) or via the Adv's or Dakar's accessory socket???

Pls help the GPS noob! :D

80 quid for a quest....total madness..eventhe bloody luddites are getting them now

Shoulda kept them at 400 so only the discerning gennelmen would know how good they are :thumb

Spoke to Judge already for tips @ 1.45pm............will wait till his BF3 weekend in 2006

In the meantime.........the luddite will press on regardless..........however Bill was right.....should have kept them @ £400......because it was only the £80 price tag that got me interested

Still.........it'll make good 'handlebar jewellery' :D

Didn't say I was going to use it, Tarka.......... :nono

Purely in terms of research, it was worth a punt...........no way would I pay £500-800 for a GPS, sooner spend that amount on a biking trip

Tarks, at less than £100.............it'll look good as handlebar jewellery

May even get a Tour X or Rallye suit...........just to join the herd, hell no that's going too far

That's a bit harsh Ar lad, you can't really be dissappointed with Judas until he actually uses it in anger and that I fear could be a long way off

I and all the others know this is just another ruse to piss off GPS enthusiasts.

Piss Off No.1 He got it for bugger all cash (as cheap as anyone has ever bought a £300 unit anyhow) and boy is he going to make sure we all know! :soapbox:

Piss Off No.2 He will now proceed with no doubt full conviction how by owning one he now realises just how important map reading skills and navigation by the earth's movement are still where it's at. :reynolds

Piss Off No.3 In a short period of time when people have forgot he only paid £80 for it he will advertise it on eBay/BMW Club for a 'bargain' £150
