I've just taken delivery of a Garmin Quest and have been happily learning how to use it over the last few days. So far it has been great though one surprise was that the database for the UK (fast food, petrol stations etc....) was far from complete. Called up Garmin who said that's everything they had and they had no plans to expand the data for the UK. Which has left me feeling slightly deflated (apparently my nearest MacDonalds is in Calais).

Funny you should say that as we're staying at a site just outside Canterbury next week and that doesn't show up as a specific location, though I found the road it's on easily enough.

I got a quest this week . The petrol station info is also not up to date, two sites in beverley are shown as petrol but in fact are now carwashes!!! could be dodgy if u arrive at them on reserve.

First trip out and I searched for petrol stations near Ramsey (in Cambridgeshire). It showed two places within a few miles but unfortunately not the one we were actually sat at by the fuel pumps as the wife filled the car up.

The info isn't bad but it is definitely on the sparse side.

Now to go and play with the route planner

Have you got V6 or V7 of City select ?

If you've got V6 it will be out of date but you can get a free upgrade to V7, which was up to date as of last november.

I still think it's a very useful piece of kit but it would have been nice if it was that bit more useful in the software department. A pity as I had thought I had done my research on this one.

Now I'm off to plot various routes to Garmisch
