I have installed Mapsource from the DVD included in the box (660)

it is now apparently unlocked.

However when I try to start it I get a dialogue that says:

There is a problem with this GARMIN application.

Would you like to send an error report to Garmin?

etc.

I have done so.. but I don't expect a reply until MONDAY... I'ld rather not wait. I want to play!!!

When I close this dialogue another appears that says:

Runtime error!
Program C:\Program files\Garmin\mapsource.exe

abnormal program termination.

I'm wondering if there is something obvious I'm doing wrong...

any help welcome

did you have mapsource installed before this version ?

I've had similar faults with mapsource and had to unistall everything, to get it to load okay, so you can try reinstalling it ?

The following sounds complex but it's not really and you won't do any harm all the event viewer is reporting faults on your machine

it may not help but if you go to the (i'm assuming this on a windows machine) Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc then OK

A box will pop up click on the application folder in the left hand panel the RH panel will then show a bundle of error and warning have a look through to see if any mention Garmin or Mapsource they may give you more clue as to what went wrong

post up any obvious stuff may help sort you out

It is windows. XP.

just looked at that and everything was ' completed successfully'

removal. installation. configuration.

But it still won't run. though everything went smoothly up to this point.

oh.. and no. this is my first GPS. first zumo and so on...

not too sure if the Zumo disks are different,

normally you'd load mapsource, then load the mapping if your disk allow you to do it seperately it maybe worth trieing just loading Mapsource without the mapping ?

see what happens

Maybe try downloading the latest version from here, this should overwrite the current version installed off your DVD.

Does your version of XP have Service Pack 3?

hehe.. I have fixed it.

I removed it completely. used regedit to delete all that. updated the pc to SP3 (something i've avoided - thinking if it ain't broke....)

reinstalled mapsource and it works.

thanks for taking the time chaps. :beerjug:

was a bit peeved as the migsel mount arrived today and i was starting to have visions of returning the whole caboodle.
