With the purchase of my GS I currently fancy one of the new Shoei Hornet helmets. Unfortunately the colour I like the most only comes in a matt finish.

Any one got any experience of these matt finishes? Do they clean-up okay, the fly splatts come off etc, etc.

I normally use Arai helmet polish on my gloss one but not sure how durable these matt finishes are.

Any comments welcomed.....yea, yea.......sensible ones please!

Regards Bob

I've got a matt or satin System IV and a gloss System V (both black).

Of the two the satin finish is easier to look after and doesn't mark as easily or permanently as the gloss finish.

You can still polish the satin finish to protect it from the elements.

I had a matt Shoei (different model) and found that baby (bum) wipes were the best way of cleaning it up. Takes a bit more elbow grease than a shiny one but it will clean up just fine.

Allot less flies in Hong Kong but we get huge cicadas, dragonflies and flying cockroaches instead ... !

If you like cleaning greasy fingerprints & have your helmet baking in the sun, it's a purrfect finish....:thumb
Unless you're military, leave well alone....
