Running McAfee 2006 Virus protection & Firewall, all this year and it's due to expire

So bought McAfee 2007 Total Protection disc today and installed it on the 'puter and it now runs slower on Broadband than on dial-up :spitfire

Reinstalled with only the vital elements and it still runs slower than a slow thing

Deinstall and the 'puter runs at normal speed for BB

Anybody got any tips or had the same, cos it's doing my head in :spitfire :spitfire

Help please :bow

Bin it.

Get Avast for nothing on-line.

Download it and never think about anti-virus stuff again.

Hi JB

I haven't used Avast meself but have heard good things about it...I use AVG which is very good and free.

Norton, Makafee etc- bloatware commercial crap for people who don't know better :(

Have you got a link, Mike

http://www.freedownloadpage.com/avast3/

Johnny,

I was using the same as you for years and despite their boasts, I did get a few trojan etc. through.

You can download the free Avast programme and it will run with McAfee installed without conflict. Once I was happy with Avast I uninstalled every trace of McAfee I could find.

I've never had a problem since. There are usually a couple of automatic updates daily. They never interrupt the PC's normal running.

Try NOD32 which is not only AV but also filters web browsing and prevents unpleasant surprises from malignant web pages and filters email for phishing and trojans ETC. It is not free like Avast and AVG. However on several occasions when being installed on PCs that have previously been protected by other products INCLUDING Norton, McAfee, AVG and Avast it has been frightening how much stuff it detected which the others had missed.

Try a download www.eset.co.uk you can try it out for 30 days. However if you want to buy there is a special 10% off offer valid until the 31st December.

Me - I am just a very satisfied customer, having used it personally for nearly 4 years and having installed it on my work network a year ago. It now protects 90 PCs and my servers. It works nearly flawlessly and does not slow up the machines like the bloated MacAfee/Norton products.

Just my 2 pennyworth

Chris

Hi JonnyBoxer,

As per threads above I use AVG Free and Ad-Aware SE Personal. Never had a problem (touch wood!) and both are free.
Hope this helps,

Keep on keeping on :thumb

JB I thought we'd already chatted about this previously which is maybe why you didn't call this time - as you insist on treating your PC like a Winter bike project and won't 'step away from the keyboard' then take the advice here (well except the one about replacing McAfee with Norton   )

Uninstall McAfree and bin it.

If you haven't already uninstalled Norton do so and bin it.

Get Anti-virus from http://free.grisoft.com

Get Firewall from http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...alm/freeDownload.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=GB&lang=en

There are a multitude of products to deal with Anti-Spam and Spyware but deal with the above first then come back for more info.

Make full use of the System Restore Point feature of XP too :D

Thanks chaps

I'm trying eset NOD 32 on a free 30 day trial for now

McAfee 2006 and all was well :thumb

However McAfee 2007 installed and it goes 'tits up'...............slower than a slow thing

So now I'm £30 worse off purchasing McAfee 2007 (luckily it was half price in the sales) in addition to being nicked and fined £30 last week by the rozzers

So £60 has gone 'tits up' in 2 weeks :spitfire ........................

Not a good time in Yokshire :( :D :D :D :D :D
