MCN R1200 GSA and KTM 990 Adv. comparison video

Sounds like a reasonable report given the time they had available. Have to get a ride on the KTM though, just to see what its like as it sounds like a lotta fun.

Bags???

Hello all,

I really like the looks of the bags used on that KTM.... can anyone tell me if they are available for the 'GS? Thanks, Jeff in the Colonies

I think you can get them from Hepco and Becker not sure if there the same can't be arsed to look.:augie
Too tired!!!!!!!!

Good report still think the bmw wins because the ktm prices drop like a stone.

BMW residuals aren't as bullet-proof as they used to be, particularly as they are now not only introducing more models (800 GS) but also 'refreshing' more obviously. BMW are starting to play the game that others have been playing for years - and to some extent it drags in the new sales at the expense of traditional copper-bottomed residuals. Just look at the way that 04/05/06 GS values have plummeted recently with the introduction of the 08 model. GSAs have dropped as well, just not quite as much. This will also have an effect on late 1150s too.

If you want a nice new bike you'll pay a heavy premium, you have to pay big-time for that 'special feeling'. If you want value, buy one that's a year or two old. Either of them.

As far as I can see, as much as the two bikes are different in character, the two sets of ownership experience are different too. With BMW you get good dealership and support coverage and that cosy feeling of belonging, but at a price - they know how to charge! With KTM you don't; the dealers are much more thinly spread (it's one of the things that put me off last time around - but might not next time), you're much more on your own and that feeling suits a lot of people - and it also costs a lot less.

Good, balanced report, but could have done with being much longer.
