Could those of you that use Media Monkey to organise their music, please answer a few queries from an IT tosser please?

I've downloaded it and installed it as suggested by others on this forum.

Firstly, It won't find my Itunes music library. It has 'ticked' the library as being scanned, but no tracks show in the window?

Secondly, I did buy the occaisional song from itunes. Do you MM users buy online music from other sources, and if so, which ones do you recommend?

When I plug my ipod into my PC to update. How do I make it sync with MM and not itunes?

Guidance much appreciated.

firstly - i don't understand wot u mean by 'your 'itunes library' ?

I guess you've got a directory of music ? - just point it there.

there is a database library that itunes builds - don't use that.

i have all my music in a directory m:/music - then in folders under that.
point it to M: and it'll auto find anything under it.

you may want to not have itunes running at all - even in the background - it may be trying to take over.

use bittorrent to download free music

if all else fails - go to the MM website forum and search on problems.

M4p

My music (itunes) files are in .m4p format. I note that isn't one of the filetypes supported by MMonkey, so assume that's the reason MM isn't finding them?

Surely some of you MM users also have .m4p ipod files though?

In iTunes, try the following (from iTunes HELP/Convert)

To convert a song's file format:
Choose Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click Importing.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Shift key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except audio files you purchased from the iTunes Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)
