I'm planning to ride my MM next year for a week in the Alps. Did a similar trip this year on my GSA with aluminium paniers, tank bag with additional bag and tent strapped to seat and rack. Next time I'm not camping, nor am I even going to attempt to fit paniers to the MM.

So this means a tank bag - vital for maps - and a smaller bag lashed to that black pressed metal rack thingy and the seat.

BM make what looks like a decent tank bag.

They also make a matching rear bag with a base shaped to fit the rack but annoying it's merely "splash-proof".

No info on how big it is either but I don't reckon I get a pair of my size 13's in there

Anyone seen either or got better suggestions?

Do pay attention Mr Magnum :augie. Joe Bar covered this here;

I reckon you should be able to get a cover for the HP2 Bag,Failing that, put your gear in Bin Liners inside the Bag. An alternative could be the Bags with Roll-Up ends - Cargo Sacks ? I suppose it depends on how much gear you need to take.

The rear HP2 bag wouldn't sort me out for an overnighter let alone a week, I've seen it and it's not very big at all, would almost guarantee you won't get your size 13's in there.

If you're just looking at soft luggage, first stop I would suggest would be Touratech for the rear luggage plate. It's not massive, but definitely helps support a tailbag.

Apart from some of the seam welded, no zip Ortleib type roll bags, all soft luggae will evnetually seep water in heavy downpours, they may be made from waterproof material, but that changes once you run it through a sewing machine and put a zip in it.

As Dave says, pack into plastic bags and you'll be fine.

Both FAMSA and Wolfman both do tank bags and tail bags that will fit the Megamoto.

Soft luggage

Dont touch the BM stuff.....looked at it for the HP2E and its expensive crap. i have the Wunderlich Tank bag which holds quite alot and has a decent map case with it. I have used the Wolfman tankbag before and reckon thats the best for the money. As for tail packs, again Wolfman do good stuff. Buy the 2 together and you may get a deal

+1 on the wunderlich tankbag - good size, expandable and comes with carry straps to carry when off the bike.

As for the back - you could consider the kreiga bags - in particular the US-20 unit, shown here with a coupe US-10 units strapped to either side. I have used on for a weekend, including fitting in a sleeping bag. Completely waterproof including being completely submersed when I took on a river that was a bit deeper than I expected :blast

Wewps

Could have sworn Joe had a small American square bag on his rack

Must have been another thread.

You're right, I use a Wolfman Peak Tail bag day to day on the MM, not big enough to tour with though ;)

This was probably the photo you were thinking of -

Gotya Joe. Tell me, why the Touratech rack? If it's the one I'm thinking of it's hardly bigger than the stock matt black one? Can't you just lash a bag the the stock rack and seat?

From my experience - the touratech rack just makes it quite a bit simpler to get the straps through. It doesn't really add any strength as the weak point is how that section of the tail is mounted to the sub frame - it really isn't very strong. If you are going with anything more than 10 kilos (although the TT spec says 5  ) then def share the load over the seat otherwise you are at risk of losing your tailsection!

Exactly as Mav says. It's a little bit bigger, but the slots make strapping bags to it much easier. It's not that expensive, but does make life a bit easier.

Glad you can share a laugh !

Found on the HP2 one up medium size ortlieb and some sort of tankbag did the trick nicely for me.

The more space you have the more crap you carry :D

This was what i was getting at and as Maverick says, lack of space forces you to prioritise what you take. I took a similar set up to the Isle Of Man for the Southern 100,but using my KTM 640SM.It is amazing how little kit you can get away with.

I have the Marsee Corona rocket pocket. expandable to 11 liters and has a quick release attachment to the tank ring. They also make a larger one called the Mr. pockets and I think its 20 liters total.

great luggage solution

The Hepco Becker rear rack works brilliantly with the BMW rear bag with the angle in the base, it takes just 4 clips to put it on in seconds.
I found putting straps on the rear for a sausage bag a mission.

for the ortlieb type bags give these a try.... cost effective i'd say.

Does anyone have any pics of these racks and the bags please?
