My 2005 R1150GSA has been a "bit lumpy" between 4000 and 5000 in top. Decided to check air filter - found a dry and dirty K&N - (I bought the bike in July) binned it and put in the proper filter.
Took her out for a 100 mile run - revved hard in lower gears and a fair bit at 90+ (on a private road of course). Got off to find number plate bent and number plate holder melted! (Remus exhaust).

Repeated journey I reverse (in that I was going home) - again, revved hard I lowers gears but kept down to about 80 to 85. Checked plate when I got home - not warm at all. But 200 mile trip got through 25+ litres of fuel.

Any idea what is/was going on? Still a bit lumpy 4000 - 5000, but not as bad.

They all do that sir :rob

15 quid and ebay to sort it.....this one's a bit longer to pass by the pannier so all you'd need is a shorter section with maybe a 45 degree kink to divert the flow downwards a bit more :thumb2

Ten minutes work with a soft mallet, a drill and a pop riveter

Don't have a riveter, no idea how to use one!

SO why has my vanilla 1150GS not done this? (running standard exhaust) - is it a problem caused by the remus?

Because the Remus is directing the exhaust efflux in a slightly different direction (ie towards the number plate). Exhaust efflux is like a blow torch...

Who's pannier frames are they.

My 1150 has had a Remus on from new-I have fitted the cat & standard can once a year for the test in Austria-comes back off straight after. Never had the slightest sign of a problem either with the plate or holder. Could something be bent on the OP's bike causing the tailpipe to point at the plate?-mine certainly does not.
