Met Police

Don't know if anyone has posted this before but...

Got lost coming out of the City today on way up north (SPIII took too long so I just point in what I thought was in the right direction) end up near Hampstead and there were about 6 or 7 1200GS's in Met Police colours all playing together... what gives....

I have decided that the GSA with Alli Panniers is a bit wide for filtering in London traffic

Naaa.......it's all in the head.....

I'm often around centrla London.....went from Dartford to W1, across to E5 then down to se23 via Vauxhall bridge road today......with a pait of Vern's biggest on the back......sure there are some gaps you don't want to attempt but with the torque and high seating position, I find I don't lose out much to any but the maddest couriers.

People tend to move out of the way rather quickly when a very large GS, fog lights on up front and with very large solid looking panniers following up behind looms in their mirrors

;) :D :D

PS I particularly like the way they've put GS-only islands in the middle of many roads to provide a nice bit of off-roading down the middle of the carriageway  :D

New bikes at Hendon I think you will find, saw 3 of them together yesterday around Elstree.

Yes, Mr Fanum, you are right on the islands, but be careful because I saw a few traffic cops pulling a courier on Friday for going around islands, aparently the public are getting knocked over a bit more these days on these type of crossing so they are cutting down on this type of short cut!!

My Jesse's don't get in the way either!

Cheers, Nick

Yes, watch the islands. 3 points for going round the wrong way of one (ignoring the keep left blue arrow sign). I got pulled up for doing just that some months back. Mr Policeman (on a 650GS :D ) said it was the sort of thing he'd expect a 17 year old pizza delivery boy to do, not a gentleman on a real motorbike. He didn't book me though probably as we were sitting in the middle of the road with traffic now going quite rapidly in both directions around us - shame.

Not endorsable

If he told you it was a 3-pointer he was mistaken or trying to wind you up. It does not carry penalty points unlike failing to comply with a green arrow on ATS which does.

It is a £30 non-endorsable offence to contravene a 'keep left' sign.

I felt certain it was a £60 3 pointer, like sitting in the turn right lane at Traffic Lights and then roaring off in a straight line..

Ahhh...I'd better stop doing that then. I didn't realise it was an endorsable offence.

It is only a 3-pointer if there is a mandatory directional green arrow incorporated in the traffic signals. If its just normal circular ATS and a white arrow painted on the road that indicates a right or left turn lane then they are advisory only and therefore none endorsable.

Trust me, i'm a doctor!!

I did the Bikesafe London course earlier this year and the bike cops said it was acceptable to sit in the turn left or right lane if there's no green arrow in the traffic lights.

FAILING TO COMPLY WITH A TRAFFIC SIGN

Daves right - its a £60 fine and 3 points on your licence, thats if you qualify for a fixed penalty ticket. If you don't you'll be doffing your cap to the local beak.

Sec. 36 Road Traffic Act 1988

This generally applies to double white lines, stop signs etc. NOT keep left signs.

Anyway, back to the original post (sort of)......I saw six F650GS's on the back of a police vehicle transporter at the bottom of the M1 yesterday.....fully plodded up with lights beacons sirens crash bars etc etc....

Ideal bikes for the purpose I reckon.:)

does that include the officers sitting on the bikes, on their way to an emergency up the motorway --

told you the 650 was crap on the motorways, they put them on a transporter to get to the call

:D :D

and its 18 points and £43.50 for going down a no entry

uh oh!

thought Hops would have replied by now. Just in case any ones wondering he's right - £30 non endorsable. Now what was the original post about?
