Hi.
Well my son in a moment of teenage wisdom deleted Microsoft office 2003
I have to keep my charts for what i do and now when trying to open it up it says find on system or on the internet.
The system is obviously not there and the download i can't find for free.
Surely 2003 has to be a free download now or am i dreaming?

Any other way around this problem?

Thanks

Office is a premium office package, and is certainly not free.

How was it installed originally?

Did he delete the files, or remove it using the 'Add/Remove Programs' section of Control Panel? If he just deleted the files, you might be able to borrow a CD and then use the Repair option under the 'Add/Remove Programs'.

If you are in dire straits, you could download and install OpenOffice.Org, which is free and can interwork with Microsoft files. It's not perfect, but it sounds like it could dig you (and your son!) out of a hole.

I posted the link as an illustration of how expensive copies of Office actually are, and as Banger is using the software for his job, it seemed the most appropriate copy to recommend. However I'd only recommend buying MSOffice, in this case, as a last resort, unless the original copy was a pirate.

If the original copy was legit, then let's find a way to get it working again without either costing Banger money, or further filling Microsoft's coffers, unnecessarily.

where is the original installation CD?

Do you have the product key to activate the product if you had another copy of the installation CD?

If you do, you only need to borrow someone else's copy of Office 2003, and install using your product key, which is, I believe, a pukka way of proceeding.

what about going to an earlier restore point? to see it it'll put in back from previous version or am being phick...

Thanks guys i managed to get the free download mentioned and got it back.

:)

You can get hold of the Student/Teacher edition for approximately £85.

Indeed. And for those people using the Mac, the Student/Teacher version of Microsoft Office is licensed for up to three computers...

In every other respect, it is the normal product. You can find Student / Teacher versions of the PC Microsoft Office at PC World and the best place to find the Mac Student / Teacher version is the Apple Store.

You simply can't download Office 2003. If you do, it is an illegal copy.

Office "phones home" which means that when you install it, as part of the installation process it contacts Microsoft to see if you have a legit copy. In the past couple of months, Microsoft have started to deactivate some of the unlicensed copies....
