I've acquired a MacBook Pro and want to install Microsoft Office (home/business) on to it but the likes of PC World are charging £189 which seems rather ludicrously steep to me. Can anyone offer any advice on whether cheaper alternatives are available please?

Well if you were the sort that isnt too bothered by copyright laws etc etc and heaven forbid M'Lud
It is/will be readily available on those scoundrel torrent sites ready to install straight on !

Do you absolutely need MS Office? - what about one of the excellent free/open applications? NeoOffice, LibreOffice etc.

Word is quite good for complex documents (though is crashes alarmingly frequently), but overkill for most uses.

Got my MS office for Mac from PC world (1user 1 mac) - was best price at the time (6 months ago) about £80 ? seems to work fine and cross compatable with the pc's at work - yes I know its supposed to be ! but had heard report of some issues though ive had none yet.

I bought it from the Stormfront store with my iMac, I'm sure it was £60 two years ago, but doesn't include access.

I have since loaded it on two MacBook airs and a Macmini.

Hi

I've just paid £8.95 for the Mac version.

If you can find a company that subscribes may be best option and legal.

Thanks for the hint Bill. Have just bought Mac Office from Apple and then spotted your suggestion.... Put my work e-mail into it and hey presto I've now got it for £8.95... So the sealed copy of the software is heading back to Apple for a refund. Great saving!
