Having recently replaced my 2610 with a 550 I found the GPS obscured the key part of the speedo. It also had a tendency for the RAM arm to twist down.

I added an extra RAM arm to move the GPS out of the line of sight of the speed. This works fine, but the tendancy for the RAM balls to let the GPS tip downwards is even worse.

I've tightened up the RAMs as much as poss, but the GPS still falls down. I guess they are not designed to withstand the vibration.

Anybody else have the same problem and found a solution?

Stolzy,

So its clear in my ol mind :rob its an 1150GSA with Migsel speedo bracket (that has RAM-B-236 ball) then you have zumo cradle with square base plate RAM-B-347and the arm, is it short 1.75" (RAM-B-201-A) or standard 3" (RAM-B-201)

The short arm was suggested for the speedo mount due to SPIII/2610 device weight.

Have you connected any other arm, ie two arms with a ball adaptor?.

Please confirm exact set up :thumb2 .. tightening up the arm lever, compresses the ball into the sapce availale give you the lock and grip ...

 Having quoffed a cup of Parisenne coffee ..
..look at the lever knob, does the brass insert sit proud or is it flush ? if flush then can only be ..

..second, look at the bolt itself and see if it closes and grips, I have seen it once before where the bolt, regardless of how much you tightened it, hit a stop... the bolt was oversized.

I took out the RAM knob and replaced it with an M8 or M10 bolt and tightened it righ up with a couple of spanners - gets it very tight.....

Everything is tight and the brass inserts look flush.

There are two short arms with a double ball between - the migsel speedo mount is not usable otherwise. There really isn't any way to fit a 550 without obscuring the speedo completely.

I've tightened the RAM balls using moles on the knobs, I doubt it can be tightened more without damage.

I guess the weight of the 550 is just too much for the RAM balls to support against the vibration

I had exactly that problem and it's because of the RH thread. If it was a left-handed thread you would be fine, but that arrangement will always vibrate loose eventually, no matter what.

I cured it using some red loctite threadlock, and I don't mean the blue stuff in the red tube, I mean stuff that is sold as stud lock. 10k miles later and there has been no movement whatsoever :thumb2
