I'm thinking of getting some mikuni slide carbs.
Currently my motor is a standard R80 with 32mm Bing's. In the future I hope to put on a Richie Moore 1000cc kit. But for now I would like to look at getting some new carbs first. What carb size should I be looking at, considering I want to upgrade to a 1000 in the future?

Basically I had the mikuni round slide's in mind

Hope this is helpful and not confusing :thumb2
I have a pair of dellorto 38mm carbs attached to a siebenrock pair of barrels / pistons
I am very very very happy with the way my bike runs and considering the performance increase the fuel usage aint that bad
Happy new year to yer :thumb2

Allens performance sell complete kits http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/products-kits-vm.html they list 32 through to 38mm options for the R100 bikes and a 34mm kit for the R80.

I'd have a word with Roger Chatterton he recently swapped from Mikuni's to Bings.

The Bings are great carbs and offer a good compromise between performance and fuel economy. Not sure why you'd want to change from them. The only thing you'll gain in is a slightly quicker throttle response.

BMW stayed with Bings for their mightly Desert Racer so they can't be that bad?

If you're planning to go to 1000cc, you'll need 40mm bings,if you are going to stick with bings.

Personally I'd avoid the Mikunis - various reasons, couple of which being-

much better fuel economy with the Bings - approx an extra 50+ miles per tankfull, (from 270 to a reliable 325 miles)

Mikunis were always difficult to line-up with the airbox air intake tubes, and backfired off a few times -very embarrassing,

Mikunis would allow water (rain !) in either via the throttle cable into the carbs, or via a badly fitting air intake ( see above),

choke levers were a bit of a faff-( ie no choke cables attached),

Bings seem smoother, and certainly no slower , (however, they have been "tweaked" by Richie Moore...say no more :blast )

So - happy to have put carbs back to standard 40mm Bings.

The above is only MY experiences, so opinions might (will ) differ !! :blagblah
